I hope that someone from the club has read that, absolute dream result for St.Kilda and if we were able to get that it would be massive for the club....

Personally I don't believe that we will be involved, I would think that another team would come in and outbid us...

I really think that we should get Roo to front up to the AFL to sell the idea, he could become the face of Footy for the GC...
I hope that someone at the club has thought about it before they talked to the AFL, if we are hoping that they are running the club and acting only after the read stuff on here we are in trouble....and we are in fairy land..
The report was clear only if the club received a better draw will we be playing any games on the GC....Bam has got it right I think that is what the club has put to the AFL with the addition of a 2 games in two weeks with one travel, iy must have the AFL thinking.....but lets not think it was all our idea and that it will only happen if someone from the club reads our posts....nice thought but please

The AFL should be dancing with joy that a team with such a supporter base and Qld on-field presence has actually OFFERED to play some HOME games up there...they should be licking our shoes with gratitude IMHO
I think I'm coming from the same place as you - our way or the highway, with every expectation that means the highway, but if they AFL is as keen as is being reported, they've got to be given the chance to overpay.
F*** 'em - they are desperate for a GC presence, and if North say rack off then the other Melbourne clubs have the AFL by the noose.

Ask for $3M per year - whatya reckon BAM??
Footy First needs to remember their mandate. Get the fixture, then balance the $$$. I would be hunting the 500k per game that apparently Hawthorn get should pay for a number of initiatives over the life of the deal including ensuring our independance from AFL demands we don't like... but at $3M a year with a spending board, I'd actually be a little concerned that we'd overextend ourselves and find ourselves addicted to the AFL money - there is no more demanding sponsor for the club than the AFL.

I look at it a bit like a poker game where after the flop we've hit a straight with a flush draw out there. We certainly hold the cards right now, and we should raise accordingly... but if we ask for $3M, the AFL should walk away, so if they say yes, all of a sudden I'm worried about what else is going on...

On the other hand... $3M P/A from the AFL v my paranoia. Give me the problem.

Gold Coast's Mayor, Ron Clarke:
"Yes we want the AFL but the league would be better off taking up the offers from St Kilda and Collingwood and mixing some games up here until they sort out a team.

i still cant see this as a bad thing...im still surprised the afl is even considering the offers from collingwood and stkilda

As a Gold Coaster I am not a great fan of Ron Clarke. Good bloke but, a bit old for the job. You would have to live here to understand. However, he does understand footy. And he is right. Heaps of ex Victorians here. We want to see our sides playing up here, not some manufactured team. The AFL need to understand this for success.
