This good news, though, will be discounted by the 2007 financial result, which will now be "break even at best", according to chief executive Archie Fraser.stinger wrote:...us....the other 15 clubs will be in the black....

While the Saints operated profitably this year, a decision has been made to take "some accounting hits" in the form of capital works write-downs and provisions for payments to former coach Grant Thomas and the recently retired Aaron Hamill.
It is understood that as much as $400,000 has been put into the 2007 accounts for the settlement of Hamill's contract, which was not due to expire until the end of 2008. A provision of $270,000 is also understood to have been set aside for the contested claim Thomas has against the club for what he maintains are unpaid entitlements.
FAIR DINKUM
1. We have to pay out Hamill's contract after Thomas put him on a FIVE YEAR CONTRACT
Thomas's decision has cost to the club $400,000 for SFA
2. Thomas suing the St.Kilda Football club for $270,000, which includes $167,000 for holiday and annual leave entitlements
Excuse me, BUT this parasite already signed a statutory declaration stating that he had been paid ALL holiday pay and annual leave entitlements and had no HP & AL monies owing
I mean FAIR FRICKEN DINKUM
Close to $700,000 off the club's bottomline, IF the club pays this leech
$400,000 for signing Hamill to a ridiculous 5 year contract
We already paid out Penny after Thomas signed him to a five year
All up this buffoon will cost the club ONE MILLION DOLLARS for running the football department like a chook raffle and for his legal action if the club give in to this bloodsucker
Great St.Kilda man, perleeeeze, spare me, nothing more than a snake in the grass and a machiavellian maestro
Thomas was paid over $2.5 million dollars for the priviledge of coaching the club, with no previous experience and was on $500,000 straight up from the get go, in what he admits was a flawed process
This parasite should be happy with the over inflated salary he was on to begin with
Great St.Kilda men are the ones who made the sacrifice by taking 22.5 cents in the dollar to keep the St.Kilda Football Club in existence, so that there was a football club for leeches like Thomas to sue, in the first place
At the time while many former players sacrificed so much with scheme of arrangement payments, Thomas Maximus took every cent owing to him and pissed off to North Melbourne when he thought there was more money to be made there
Grant Thomas loves the St.Kilda football Club alright, it's been his cash cow for more than five years, and he's still trying to filch money off the club
If the club payout this parasite then it's $700,000 off the club's bottomline for nothing more than a combination of Thomas's incompetence and sheer greed
Be happy with the more than 2.5 million you were already overpaid due to a flawed process and considering you've cost the club around $700,000 in contractual payout obligations as a result of your handiwork, just piss off and count your blessings, you bloodsucker
Grant Thomas bleeds red, white and black, only problem is it comes off the club's bottomline
Grant Thomas you're a FAIR DINKUM disgrace
Thomas says he loves the St.Kilda football club and would never do anything to hurt it
The reason for St.Kilda making a loss is due to the incompetent buffoonery and sheer bloodsucking greed of Grant Thomas and Grant Thomas alone
FAIR FRICKEN DINKUM

And thats the point.JeffDunne wrote:We made a small cash profit.
Based on the claims of the previous administration we should have been making $m+ cash profits.
A profit is only an Accounting concept. Cash Flow and Balance Sheet can be a much better guide.
I would have to look back at the Annual Accounts for the past couple of years (or get a life ) to see if we ever made $1 mill+ cash profits under Butterss.
ANever swayed by the mill+ profit argument, just like I am never swayed by only the Saints making a book loss, if we got 1.5 mill on a drip feed from the AFL like some other clubs we would have been making multi million $ profits.
I think North, Melbourne and the Bulldogs have a hide to trumpet their supposed "profits" when one of their revenue streams is charity from the AFL that the other 13 clubs dont get. I know that according to Accounting Stds and Conceptual Framework these clubs are reporting correctly, but it is the ethics of their spin that I dont agee with.

"Clubs cash in on stellar year
01 December 2007 Herald Sun

VICTORIA'S 10 AFL clubs have returned their best set of financial figures in history.
All 10 will return profits on the 2007 financial year, after a season of booming crowds and increasing memberships.
With all six non-Victorian sides in the black, it is the first time every AFL club has had a profit in the same season.
Hawthorn's $3.603 million surplus was the best, with the 10 clubs combining for a $13.91 million windfall.
The only club to take gloss off the booming balance sheets is St Kilda, which is soon expected to announce it will record a paper loss.
The Saints made a small cash profit, but decided to write down some capital gains at Moorabbin, and include in their financials potential payouts to Aaron Hamill and coach Grant Thomas.
Even the Kangaroos announced a $100,000 profit.
The AFL's chief commercial officer Gillon McLachlan yesterday said the figures were testament to the health of the competition and the increasingly professional club administrations.
"I don't think there has ever been a time when we have had 15 of 16 clubs profitable, and 16 of 16 in a cash sense. I doubt it's ever happened in AFL history," he said.
"It's very symbolic, in recognition of the state of the industry. It's a credit to the clubs, who are getting increasingly professional management teams, and the healthy crowds, which help clubs, and the strong distributions from the AFL."
The AFL's $780 million TV rights deal means every club receives an extra $1.2 million dividend a year on top of the annual distribution of over $6 million. But with clubs investing far more in their football departments this year it is not just AFL money propping up their bottom lines.
"It is because of growing membership, and increasingly clubs investing in non-football related assets, and the income now coming back into the financial statements is bullet-proofing clubs for times when the football team is not going so well," he said.
This year the Bulldogs announced their first profit since 2000 despite a poor on-field year, while the Tigers were wooden spooners but made a $1.03 million profit.
The AFL clearly has enough money to support the Kangaroos in Melbourne long-term, but McLachlan said there were other issues at play.
"I don't think so, because the money is for all the clubs. Our job is to grow the code, and that requires increasing investments at grass-roots level, in stadia, in community facilities, in re-investing in the product.
"The other thing is, it might not just be an AFL decision, it's the club's money and they will obviously have a say in it."
In an excellent sign for the league's prosperity, Brisbane made a $1.133 million profit this season despite a massive outlay on its football department and a membership base that dropped dramatically."

beside the article there is a chart......we are under the line....showing a 300 thousand dollar loss......as i said...a paper loss...but still a loss nevertheless......

The reason the AFL support them financially is so they can return profitable results. The AFL wouldn't support them until they could show a plan on returning a profitable result.
I'm not sure if the clubs are to blame for the spin.

The reason we are showing a loss this season is that the Club (under the new administration) is bringing forward into 2007 accounts, payments/provisions that belong to subsequent years. Whilst this really does nothing to the overall running of the Club it does artificially deflate this year's results and artificially inflate next year and subsequent years results.
When we hear the profits announced for next year I sincerely hope that we all remember that approx $700,000 of it (next year's profit) actually belonged to this year.

FFS have just artificially included sums into the 2007 bottomline, so as to not have to include it in next year's annual report
nonetheless, the monies and make no mistake about this, that have eroded the club's bottomline result directly from the buffoonery and parasitic greed of Grant Thomas
