McQualter and Sweeney are chances for the rookie draft.

There was one ex-saint picked up though.

I think I read on here that Watts is going to play in the amateurs next year and Darryn Cresswell has approached Brooks to play for the Devils in the VFL - that's not been agreed to yet, as far as I know.

Realised that - was just relating what I had heard/read about them. :)

Further news on Barry Brooks today,

http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0, ... 22,00.html

"Recently delisted AFL Tasmanians Barry Brooks and Todd Grima were not drafted, but Cresswell said Brooks had ruled out returning to Tasmania and was unlikely to even continue playing football."

The Cresswell mentioned is the Devils coach, Darryn Cresswell.

Isn't Brooks from King Island?

Indeed it was, by a gentleman by the name of John Batman I believe, who instigated the only known treaty that exists between original owners and white invaders in Australia.

However, as the Koori's have no notion of land-ownership in their culture, they were still ripped off.

Is there a Batman Street in Melbourne? I seem to remember there being one somewhere between Telstra Dome and Jolimont?

There WAS a Batman Avenue, but it has been ripped up and replaced by a park, with an aboriginal name Birrjang Marr (spelling??).

Quite ironic when you consider what the white settlers did to the aboriginals in the 1700's eh???

 If Brookes is not even looking to play footy, just shows his heart was never in it. Going back to mid 90's my nephew who'd lived , loved, breathed footy all his young life [thanks to family hist/indoctrination is a one=eyed Saints fan] played VSFL U18 not drafted but went to VFL - not the most gifted, but absolutely dedicated- ended up playing in VFL Premiership side & went on to captain club. I'm very proud of his achievements & dedication - have often wondered how he would have fared had an AFL side taken the punt. Would have had a wonderful club man unlike so many of his "more talented" peers who were drafted/didn't make it & didn't have the success he ultimately achieved,
The draft is a lottery and in country Victoria MANY still fly under the radar.
