interesting thread on big footy on our recruits......
here is one of the posts....
"Mad Saint Guy, or are you Nexus Helen?
Jack Steven is a great player in the Jimmy Bartel mode. Would have been top 10 next year, end of story.
McEvoy, I rate him the 3rd best in the draft behind Cotchin and Kruezer, and I know my football, will be a very good kid in time, still growing at 201cm.
Eljay, is 178cm and 65kgs, classy and quick, similar to his bro Daniel, another bottom age player. Obviously suffered with his injuries this year but had top 15 potential next year.
All in all we hope will be good in the future."

MORE FROM BIG FOOTY.............
"ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon says sentiment and a desire to keep a champion in the game were critical factors in the decision to select full-forward Fraser Gehrig with pick 57 at the NAB AFL Draft.
Despite selecting young ruckman Ben McEvoy with pick 9, hard-nut onballer Jack Steven (42) and Eljay Connors (70), all talk centred on Gehrig.
After retiring from football after round 22, Gehrig had a change of heart last week when he surprised the football world by nominating for the draft.
“I’m more from the Kevin Sheedy school of thought in that we lose our champions pretty quick and if you can keep them involved in the game then do that and that’s exactly what we’ve done,â€

Yes I think Stevens is a good pick up for us......and has what we are short of....
I heard Hocking interviewed on all of his players.....and he was full of praise for Stevens....though he did think that the Saints selection wasa bit lower than he was expecting..
However factor in that Stevens is a fast mid and I am more than happy where we took him as he suits are needs very well and thus he is more valuable to us where we took him than other clubs and he would have been gone most likely by or next pick.
Also add in that he is on the young side....could have played TAC next year and he looks even more attractive.
we need to bare his age in mind though and not expect him to play seniors in 2008.

People will forget that on here and call for his head by the seasons endsaintsRrising wrote:Also add in that he is on the young side....could have played TAC next year and he looks even more attractive.

I wouldn't be expecting much from him. I won't be surprised if he doesn't play VFL seniors at all next year. He might play a couple though.
