Very young players drafted...

Post: # 494313Post saintsRrising »

Well with the draft selections apart from Fraser we have gone for very young bottom aged players .....and Connors a smokie at 70...in a very shallow draft.

When you think about this it makes a lot of sense..

Having just picked up King, C Gardiner, Schneider....and redrafting the GTrain there would seem to be a fair bit of mature talent competing for the "best 22"....or even a few games in 2008 from the fringe....with others such as Armo and Geary pushing up.......and so drafting very young guys they will not be expecting to play much footy in 2008 anyway (particularly McEvoy who can see a clear path to replace King (and Gardiner???)

Balancing that the younger the pick...the higher the risk that they may not bloom.....but against that there is the possibility of getting a player much better than their selction place.

With picking up a talented ruckman, two mids with pace and a KPP I am happy.

Hopefully one of our rookies will bea FB type though.

Connors has had some injuries including a punctured lung....but evidently is very quick and has good skills......and so would seem to be on ok pick up at 70....though one can always argue this low in a week draft.

I believe the defensive stoppers in todays game, in the glass, michael, rutten mould, are better being developed through the rookie system, as the essetials skill level is different, and some can come on at a later age..

by and large agree totally with the initial thoughts posted..

Agree with this, i'm in the process of writing up a rather lengthy post on the issue.
