spoke to Collingwood fan yesterday about it, who is step-relative, articulate, intellegent and a nice bloke - quite a bizarre combo re the Collingwood bit eh??
Anyway, his take on it is that the whole proposal of 6 Pies games at Cararra is not at all an option in reality for the AFL, and it's Eddie's bluffing game to force the Kangaroos to the Gold Coast.
IF we assume:
(1) Collingwood proposal is not feasible/sensible to the AFL
(2) 17th team is also not feasible/sensible to the AFL either
THEN:
Option 3:
Move Kangaroos to the GC is the only other option on the table at the moment.
IF....the Kangaroos can wangle their way out of the GC move through recent proposals re funding, then unless at least a couple of Melbourne clubs want to move THEIR home games to the GC, we are back to the original AFL master plan.
Quite simple looking at it that way isn't it???

What about option 4??
"Admitting that having 2 AFL teams withing spitting distance of each other in a Rugby League state is a really stupid idea. Abandon it and concentrate on the welfare of the exising 16 Clubs"

Problem with option 4 is it smells too much of common sense.saint66au wrote:What about option 4??

I have outright dismissed any "common sense" options in my thoughts!!!

The AFL had 8 years between the folding of the NRLs last Gold Coast team in 1999 and the launch of the Titans this year to try and capture the hearts and minds (and wallets) of the public on the GC.
Any AFL club at Carrarra will play second banana to the Titans now, and Dimwit knows it, which is why he is trying to force the Roos there now before the damage is irreperable.
Too slow by far, AFL. Even the Basketball team got there before you did.

Now that is just WAY too much common sense, isn't it so much more fun when we bag the pies for no reason though?saintspremiers wrote:spoke to Collingwood fan yesterday about it, who is step-relative, articulate, intellegent and a nice bloke - quite a bizarre combo re the Collingwood bit eh??

Everybody's coming out and saying it is pure arrogance, it is nothing but common sense, if I was a Collingwood supporter I would be happy that we at least put it out there without expecting anything to come of it...

The Gold Coast over the last 20 years has become home to a great number of people from the southern states.
Gold Coast people and Brisbane people are different, and the Coast is crying out for teams of their own.
There is a growing audience for AFL on the coast, it is in the codes best interest to ensure that we get in there and quick. It will take time and effort but just like the Lions and the Swans in the end the hard work will pay off.

..but surely if these people are moving up from the Southern States they either already follow a team when they arrive or arent into footy.bozza1980 wrote:The Gold Coast over the last 20 years has become home to a great number of people from the southern states.

Its been while since Ive been there, but is it a fair statement that a lot of the "refugees" from down South are retiring age? A pretty small proportion would be young familes with kids looking for a team
