"Nobody outruns the Saints"
Were we one of the last sides to begin our preseason?
Missing out on September for the first time in four years due in no small part to our obvious problems with fitness, you'd think we may have been one of the first out on the track.
"Nobody outruns the Saints"
How refreshing would it be to hear, at some stage during the season, a St Kilda player in the media proclaiming exactly that just like we've heard from Sydney, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Collingwood and West Coast players at different times over the last few years.
Wouldn't it be nice to have that sort of confidence in our own fitness?
Strong in body, strong in mind, and all that.

Check the Saints website and see what X has to say on the matter OLB
You might surprise yourself.
We started our pre-season in the last week of October, before every club who played finals. We've had 3 weeks on those clubs who were in the eight.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

The players who have been there longer than 3 years get an extra week off with the AFL Collective Bargaining Agreement.OLB wrote:Casey will be flying next season, excellent.Oh When the Saints wrote:Monday the 29th was the earliest day you could begin, and St Kilda's 1st-3rd year players were training that morning.
What about the rest of them? I'm more concerned about our senior players' fitness levels.

Our continual support of the club affords these footballers their lifestyles, is it too much to ask to have all of them start their preseason training as early as possible so as not to have a repeat of 2007?
I weight train quite a lot these days as do a few of my mates, and we all seem to have 3 to 4 weeks off a year at some point. I think it is necessary.
It allows little nigling injuries to get a rest (the ones not worth mentioning to your physio) and refreshes your mind and spirit. It only takes 1 week to get back to where you were and then you seem to shoot past and improve very rapidly afterwards. I think it is important to have a break.
That being said in my break doesnt' mean I pig out and dont' do anything, but you mix it up a bit. So instead of doing weights you might do pilates or yoga a few times a week for example.

Well said, just because the players are having a break doesn't mean their stuffing their face with junk while not leaving the couch, I'm sure they're still maintaining a relatively healthy lifestyle, they're just not going all out....karnak wrote:I weight train quite a lot these days as do a few of my mates, and we all seem to have 3 to 4 weeks off a year at some point. It should be good for them, especially Gram and Dal etc. who appeared to be playing through niggling injuries for most of the season.
That is why I believe that there should be more byes/split rounds in AFL, even though it may lead to a few more boring weekends per year it could prevent injuries and lead to an overall higher quality of performance in the league.
