Brilliant day for the club ...
Dominated talk on SEN all day. I reckon half the air-time has been about the St Kilda Football Club.
Lead story on the front page of the Herald Sun.
Will be lead story on the back page of the Sun tomorrow and The Age sport section.
Huge publicity, and it's all positive proactive news.
Once again, the Saints are the talking point in the off-season, but this time it's all terrific for the club, it's brand and it's supporters.
Whatever your feelings about Frankston, the fact that St Kilda have basically been the talking point of the sports media for a whole day is great news.
Keep it up Saints.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.
SUPER
What a great day,now we can compete with all of those other rich clubs. Also close to the beach which will help.Might have to buy some real estate as the prices now will go throught he roof.Better than going to casey, where it is windy and cold

The coast is always cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the inland areas less than 20km away.

Yes that is the pinnacle.Oh When the Saints wrote:Whatever your feelings about Frankston, the fact that St Kilda have basically been the talking point of the sports media for a whole day is great news.
Far better than even winning a Premiership.
Perhaps if we relocated to Broome we would dominate media talk for a week.
Why stop there.
Why not change our name ?
Throw away our history ?
Sack our coach ?
They would then be talking non stop about us for a whole MONTH !
How bloody good would that be
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

I understand where Enrico is coming from ...
But nowhere did I claim it was the pinnacle.
It's a terrific day for the club.
If the Saints can only have great days when they win a premiership, then it must have been tough supporting them for the past however many years.
The positive publicity is great. We are an exciting brand and IMO it's an exciting time to be a Saints fan.
Not ever having been to Moorabbin for a match, I probably do not understand the sentiment of some in terms of leaving the ground that some people feel.

My point is that "being talked about all day" is not necessarily a good thing.fonz_#15 wrote:and how much of a tosser are you?
By all logic it is a very very very sad day to be leaving Moorabbin.
If it was the right decision, and we are yet to hear why the "One Month Board" felt all possible avenues to remain at our home were exhausted, then it is still a very very very sad day in our history.
A less "Brilliant day" would be hard to imagine !

i don't. people who react like the world has ended to something that will improve our deplorable facilities is not the end of the world.Oh When the Saints wrote:I understand where Enrico is coming from ...
i feel only for those who live in the moorabbin area that attend training regularly, the rest are not effected.

we are getting state of the art facilities out of the move.
i just struggle to see why people are so against the move..can you honestly tell me you attend training often enough to really miss moorabbin?

See Enrico, I feel really happy.
Happy for the players, who finally get decent facilities.
Happy for the club to have secured it's long term base.
Happy for the balance sheet which has a new asset.
Happy for the bayside supporters and those on the Mornington Peninsula.
These things make me excited.
I'm 18 though - to me Moorabbin is a derelict and run-down scrapheap of a training ground that is an eyesore and stuck in a strange corner of Melbourne. It carries no sense of emotional attachment. I never attended a game there. I've attended maybe a dozen training sessions there. I've been to the club shop there once.
Personally, I feel more attached to Telstra Dome. And that's a soul-less concrete facility.
Can you see how I feel as I do? I completely understand your position, as someone for whom Moorabbin means a lot.
But for me it's just exciting to get out of the place. Personally, Linton St means very little.

That is the key point.Oh When the Saints wrote:Not ever having been to Moorabbin for a match, I probably do not understand the sentiment of some in terms of leaving the ground that some people feel.
For older fans, we have so many happy memories of that place.
Yes we have lots of other good wins.
But NOTHING ever did or ever will compare to the atmosphere in that place when the Saints were coming home in the last quarter.
It was absolutely magical.
I have photos of my two children when they were each barely a day old taken next to the race at Moorabbin.
The place had soul.
I have a small urn at home filled with dirt I scraped up from The Animal Pit after our last game.
I would be happy to have my ashes scattered there.
It is our home.
Not some bloody godforsaken training facility in a dump like Frankston.
When RH updates "The Point of it All", this day - November 21st 2007 will be seen as the day the Moorabbin connection was severed.
A tragic day and the end of an era.
Hardly a cause to celebrate.
And certainly NOT a Brilliant Day !!!!!!!!!!

That's a bit rich, when Linton street is an absolute tip, and our facility in Frankston will be brand new.Enrico_Misso wrote:Not some bloody godforsaken training facility in a dump like Frankston.
The Moorabbin era ended in 1992. Time to move on.
*Allegedly.

Thanks for the "Tosser" qualificationfonz_#15 wrote:well despite it being unneccessary to call you a tosser my point is this...

I admit that even living in the area I probably only average two or three visits to training per season. Difficult these days when they train at all hours of the day.
(Though that will drop to zero if we relocate way down at Frankston).
But I am against the move because Moorabbin is our home.
It's a bit like selling the home you grew up in.
Always sad to leave behind all those happy memories.
I'm not saying this is the wrong move.
But I am disappointed that a board that probably haven't yet figured out where their car park spaces are, have jumped out of the barriers and sold out our heritage.
Maybe they have good reasons.
And it would appear that Titsy Topsy and the other Halfwits on the Keystone Council are pretty impossible to deal with.
But I would have hoped the new board would make one last full on attempt to swing the deal.
I await with interest the reasons why they didn't bother to seriously make another attempt to convince the Council.

Ok.... i'm 34 (born in '73)..... i had the 'pleasure' of standing behind the man but wonderful folks behind the goal at the Cheer Squad end (when we had a real Cheer Squad)....
to be honest... if it wasn't for Plugger and Nicky.... it would have been a very orginary place.... but having said that.... i learned to enjoy appreciating anywhere between 4-9 wins per season unit i was 18 (we made the finals in 91).....
Don't give me this Moorabbin is Mecca bullshite.....
Get with the times peope....... State of the art training faciilties are at the top of our list.......... and wherever is practical for us to sing up to thse... make it happen!!!

what happens behind closed doors, we will never know. I admit i will miss Moorabbin, so many memories even though i never watched a game there myself.
If the board has not tries everything in their powr to remain at "home" then i must admit i would be disappointed. It seems like the local council are impossible to deal eith and in the end their failure to compromise will cost them a lot of $$
