Friends of Moorabbin Reserve

Post: # 492576Post Snakeman66 »

Are posting their propaganda in the comments section of this article of the Hun.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 62,00.html

Let them know what the Moorabbin Community have missed out on because of their narrow minded views.

Here is a commentfrom a familiar voice and probably a mate of Alabaster.
Good riddance. It's has always been convenient for the football club to blame the local council and local residence for everything (including not winning a premiership). Their bully boy tactics and lack of awareness of something called the "law' has led to this. If only the club would have spent the money on the facilities at Moorabbin over the years we wouldn't have the eyesore that is Linton Street today. Good luck to the Frankston City Council as they deal with strange and difficult organisation called the St Kilda Football Club. Hope your pockets are deep. Total crap.

The Club has noted its willingness to spend a huge chunk of money on the ground, it seems the council were being pissy and uncooperative over a handful of one armed bandits.

Never heard Moorabbin being "blamed" for anything, as far as I can recall the players, especially during the '80's, lauded it as a fortress and that we would win games there we never should have won simply because of the ground itself.

Sadly, Moorabbin is part of our past now, the blame in my mind squarely goes to the shortsighted whingers on the council of Kingston.

probably the only people with a geniune right to complain are those that preceded st kilda FC in the area.

everyone else who bought there did so with full knowledge of the club.

it reminds me of a whingy colleague who bought an apartment in the inner city above a bar/club. I worked with her for about 5 years.

when she bought it, the bar was there, when she got married the bar was there, when she got pregnant, she took it on herself to shut the bar down.

she began a vindictive letter writing campaign, soliciting neighbours etc.

it was all well and good when she liked to socialise and party, now she was a 'mature married adult' she was going to attack anything that interfered with her personal utility.

I feel sorry for the owners of that establishment for having such a (insert offensive swearword) as a neighbour.

sounds like people who bought near essendon airport- because the airport was closing

or living under a flight path.

By the way the Linton St forest. Did you know it existed- it does but it would seem it doe exist to stop carparking at Moorabbin,
Hansard of parliament march 2003.
Mr HUDSON (Bentleigh) - I would like to acknowledge the work of the Linton Street urban forest group in the Moorabbin Reserve, the home of the St Kilda Football Club.

Over the last 10 years the Linton Street urban forest group has been progressively revegetating the car parks that were provided for fans during the halcyon days of the Saints at the Linton Street ground. The group has landscaped the area and planted over 2000 native trees in the reserve, with only minimal help from the Kingston City Council. It has transformed the barren, muddy car parks into a very pleasant area which is highly valued by residents in a municipality that is below average for public open space. A recent survey showed that over 300 people now use the reserve every day for passive recreation.

Last year the Kingston City Council put forward a proposal to sell off 46 housing blocks in the reserve to fund a new pokie venue and private training facility for St Kilda. The Linton Street group led the opposition to this proposal and over 500 residents lodged formal objections with the council. This has resulted in the Kingston City Council agreeing, with financial assistance from the Department of Victorian Communities, to the development of a master plan for the reserve that must include extensive consultation with local residents and community groups. All of this would not have been achieved without the dedicated work of this group, and in particular the leadership provided by Greg Alabaster, Tony Aravidis, Lex and Marlene Richardson, Tony Pook and Gillian Lelah. I congratulate them on their work.

I will continue working with the group, the Kingston City Council and St Kilda Football Club to produce positive plans - -

The group are doing such a great job, just look at the plush, grassy, green parklands there.

Not a dry shrubbery in view...
