Change of name?
Don't shoot me for this and personally I don't want it to happen, but I'm just floating it up there ...
Our heritage is very much "St Kilda", and people identify the club as "St Kilda" - not so much the Saints.
Despite having no connection with the St Kilda area for 40+ years, we have maintained the name and identity that accompanies that.
With the move to Frankston looking fairly long-term, and a return to St Kilda itself nigh on impossible, is it an appropriate time to consider the club's name?
Would the "Bayside Saints" or somesuch similar name be appropriate? It is wider and more inclusive of the area we want to own ...
Thoughts? (I expect 5 pages of replies that say "no")

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.
well no, the kangaroos are a good example of a club that have lost so much by changing their name. We have not played in stkilda for many a year, doesn't mean a thing.

Change of name, ABSOLUTELY NOWAY. Why would you even think of it - to change your name and therefore brand would be suicidal.
You can change your heritage though only by success, becoming a leader through success - eg say the next five premierships and $million profits.

Re: Change of name?
how about the st kilda-bayside saints? your idea as not without its merit because the more closely we can identify with our new home the more local businesses will get behind us. and frankston is a big city.Oh When the Saints wrote:Would the "Bayside Saints" or somesuch similar name be appropriate? we could set up the social club in fitzroy st, st kilda, and then justly lay claim to the entire bayside.
too many would be loathe to ditch the st kilda name

Thoughts...
Change the name from St Kilda to anything else and you kill off the club.
St Kilda is what give us our identity.
We don't really havea mascot and "The Saints" comes from our name St Kilda.
We are St Kilda..
We have had training bases at a number of locations and now at Frankston...we are and always have been St Kilda.
Southern Saints...Bayside saints....Gold Coast Saints....would all mean the death of St Kilda.

This move makes no difference to the interstaters who wouldn't know the difference between Cranbourne and Frankston.
Youve been warned before..now its a public one. Stop it.

Collingwood and Hawthorn didn't feel the need to change their names.
And the Brisbane Bears were actually based on the Gold Coast for the first four years of their existence.
I do see your point, but I don't see it happening and don't want to see it happening.
Wasn't there a push about 20 years ago to name us the Southern Saints?

25 minutes to make a name for yourself like you've never made before.
