Xavier at Indigenous house launch Sun 18th

Post: # 491428Post saintbrat »

When:11am to 4pm, Sunday, November 18
Where: the Aboriginal Advancement League; 4 Watts St, Thornbury

Now who was it mentioning Thornbury as saints area?
http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/News/N ... wsId=53320

Essendon’s Alwyn Davey and St Kilda’s Xavier Clarke will help launch the initiative at a family day in Thornbury, in Melbourne’s north.

The day will feature entertainment provided by a number of Indigenous artists, including Kutcha Edwards performing his new single, plus a traditional smoking ceremony and ‘Welcome to Country’ performed by Aunty Joy Murphy.

The launch will also include a NAB AFL Auskick clinic conducted by AFL players, a free sausage sizzle and other activities for kids, including a bouncy castle.

The AFL's staff social responsibility program has been working closely with Elizabeth Hoffman House to assist them with the launch.

Also features in the social pages of today's Herald Sun with Raph and Allan Murray, amongst others, at the launch of a calendar for the Unity Foundation.

Good show on at 5pm yesterday on the new NITV channel. About indigenous sportsmen froma small communitgy in W.A. It featured Polly Farmer, Syd Jackson, Jimmy and Phil Krakourer, and Derek Kickett. It was mainly W.A. footage, with some VFL. I loved Dereck Kicketts goal kicked around his body from outside the 50m line.

I"m in my local district's Reconciliation group and one of our Koori members was telling me what a mighty job Xavier [ & Raph] are doing to provide housing for Aboriginal kids that are disadvantaged or coming to the city for further education. :D

They are accepting donations on their website.

Well worth supporting.

It's good to see the club involved & offering support. The players are also given a reality check about what the real world is all about. It's not all about blondes, drugs, hero worship & fast cars.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Stars kick off indigenous healing service

By Catherine Murphy,

AFL STARS Xavier Clarke, Alwyn Davey and Andrew Lovett were key guests at Sunday’s launch of the North West Metropolitan Indigenous Family Violence Healing Service at the Aboriginal Advancement League in Melbourne.

The subject was a serious one, but the launch was a happy occasion with parents and kids alike participating in activities such as Auskick skills sessions, face painting and a jumping castle, while Kutcha Edwards and the One Fire Dancers entertained the crowd.
