Choice draft choices

Post: # 491065Post ctqs »

This is one of the best emails I've received in ages. Got it from a Saints mate the other day. If it's doing the rounds and already been posted, I apologise. :D

not sure if i told you but a mate went through our list and there's only two players who have been born on days we've won games - Harvs Saturday August 21, 1971 and now Adam Schneider May 12, 1984 - the day we beat North at VFL Park a week after Robbie Muir's cameo at Princes Park vs Carlton

(i wonder if Schneider will think i'm a freak if i approach him at the victory room next year and tell him i know what i was doing the day he was born and how that night i went and saw the hoodoo gurus at dorset gardens)

anyway, a mate's been through potential draftees and says we should make our selections based solely on the fact they were born on a day we won a game

Based on them being born on the day of a Saints victory.

Good post ctqs. I think the Saints victories in the 80's were very memorable, because they weren't a lot of them. I distinctly remember both the Saints and Subiaco winning on the same day around 1982 and reckoned it was 5 years since it happened. Back then they were dual wooden spooners and wins were like hens teeth.

These are the ones I remember:
ctqs wrote:112893 Wynne Nicholas SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS 26-08-1989 - Demons - MCG
Wasn't there but Winmar kicked nine. Also I think it was the second last game for Barks, Sheldon and maybe Greg Burns and Joffa Cunningham.
114032 Frawley Tom ST MARYS 07-04-1990 Eagles - Moorabbin

112015 Cotchin Trent NORTHERN KNIGHTS 07-04-1990 Eagles - Moorabbin
Easy win. Plugger kicked nine or ten. The second game I ever went to.
114143 Haralambopoulos Daniel Sth Morang 27-05-1989 Eagles - Moorabbin
Wasn't there but this is when Plugger elbowed McKenna in the face.

That guy should be working at the club.

Can you imagine some of the old-time commentators truing to call out this name?

Kourkoumelis (sp?) was tough enough that I remember the crowd calling out '2 bob of chips' whenever he got the ball rather than his name.

Can you imagine the late Jack Dyer trying to call Harambopoulos?

Hairy Bob Alots?

Or what would Rex Hunt do with his name?

what's to be embarrassed about?

Should I be also embarrassed about being at the Armadale to see them the night before? (ahh, the old days of bringing out the party pies and sausage rolls at midnight to get around the archaic 'alcohol must be served with a meal' licensing laws back then ...)
