I agree with the sentiment that he isn't much chop.
He is undoubtedly a dangerous player on his day, but his day doesn't come around frequently enough to make him worth the amount of $$$ he would demand: hence the Crows' lack of enthusiasm for signing him up again.
But surely he will find a taker somewhere.

He is nothing like either Milne or Schneider. He is a medium forward who gets most of his goals from marks on leads. Has been used as a key position player at Adelaide because of their lack of quality talls.fonz_#15 wrote:i think he is a very decent player..he does not suit our needs at all though imo with schneider and milne already available as small forwards.
As I said, he plays much like Charlie Gardiner, but he is good.
Dunno about that.the dogs are the new retirement home
its good to say that it isnt us
Dogs - Montegomery, Akermanis, Hudson, Welsh
Saints - Gardiner, Clarke, King, ???
Maybe the Dogs can be the retirement home while St Kilda is the recycling factory.

clarke - granted...but many thought he would stay on in a coaching capacity
gardiner - he was only 26 when we drafted him??
king - granted...
however all the players bar hudson the dogs have picked up have been older than both gardiner and king (im hoping im right...)

Welsh's 2007 stats
21 games
49 goals
19 behinds
9.9 disposals per game
4.3 marks per game
2.3 goals per game
0.9 behinds per game
2 tackles per game
Went goalless just 3 times in 2007.
Kicked 4 goals or more on 7 occasions
Kicked multiple goals 12 times
Welsh has been playing mainly as Adelaide's full forward. He is 188cm and has just a solid build, so he should either be a third deep marking target or lead-up half forward.
Even though it seems extremely unlikely that we would get him, he would add a lot to St Kilda. He would get the third defender and be able to sneak under the radar.
He is yet to turn 29 and probably has 3 years left. Deadly shot at goal and provides decent defensive pressure.

msg is spot on....Welsh is a medium marking forward and a quite handy one. nota star, but a useful player.mad saint guy wrote:He is nothing like either Milne or Schneider. We have C Gardiner though now....so no need for the older Welsh.
He would however be an excellent pick up for the Dogs who have lack of marking forwards.
Put Welsh in a FP...a young tall (Everitt???) or Minson at FF and Brad Johnson in the other FP and suddenly their forward line looks a lot more potent.
At the Blues......Fev at FF and Welsh in a FP would make the Blues midfield smile.
One thing is for sure welsh walking out on the Crows means that another AFL club has guaranteed him a deal.
