Who's lying, not I, I just said that Robert Harvey rates Ross Lyon as the best coach he's hadrodgerfox wrote:I'm not overly fond of lying either.barks4eva wrote:That's the second time you posted that dodgy, if there's one thing I can't stand it's repetitive postingrodgerfox wrote: You are a liar.
ALSO IMHO, hypothetically speaking if Grant Thomas was still coach, it would be more likely that Harvey would have already announced his retirement, such is the respect that Harvey has for Lyon as coach

The best you can do is call me a liar and claim that what I wrote is a lie, while offering NOTHING else
I stand by what I wrote and if you don't agree, try asking Robert Harvey in private sometime what he thinks of Ross Lyon

Ok, so you're saying that Robert Harvey told you in private that he rates Ross Lyon as the best coach he's ever had? Is that what you're saying?barks4eva wrote:Which is a lie.rodgerfox wrote:Who's lying, not I, I just said that Robert Harvey rates Ross Lyon as the best coach he's had

I will answer that BUT before I do, I ask for an explanation from you dodgyrodgerfox wrote: Ok, so you're saying that Robert Harvey told you in private that he rates Ross Lyon as the best coach he's ever had? Is that what you're saying?
You called me a liar and stated categorically that what I wrote was a lie
WHY?
Has Robert Harvey told you otherwise?
Or did the voices in your head just decide it for you?
Perhaps offer something, ANYTHING to back up your incorrect assumption
and then I'll bother to answer your question, dodger

I spoke briefly to Robert Harvey at the last Melbourne Storm game this year at Olympic Park.barks4eva wrote:I will answer that BUT before I do, I ask for an explanation from you dodgyrodgerfox wrote: Ok, so you're saying that Robert Harvey told you in private that he rates Ross Lyon as the best coach he's ever had? His comments were along the lines of what was reported in an article earlier this year.
He never said anything to suggest that Lyon is the best coach he's ever had. He rates him though.
Your track record of lying outright repeatedly about Cain Ackland saying he'd never had any ruck coaching at St.Kilda leads me to believe that every word you type is a lie.
Your above comment about Harves is no different.

Don't know if what Barks has said is correct - but Harves certainly DOES rate Lyon as a Coach. Believes he can deliver a flag - has no doubt in fact. Whether or not he is the best he has had? He didn't say that to me. However, Fraser Gehrig has said he is the best coach he has had - even after just 1 year!!
I chatted to him (Harves) in his store at Frankston around 2-3 weeks ago. The comments from the G'train were made to a mate of mine in his coffee venue in St.Kilda I think.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

not too many players bag the coach publicly. it's not a good career move.
i've got an open mind on RL atm ... but ultimately i'll judge him on results. ie, where st kilda finishes next season.
imo lyon has the talent at his disposal to have us playing finals next season ... if we miss again questions will need to be asked

the rogerfox b4e fight reminds me of a show i watched in the 80 called head of the class or somthing like that the show had run for a few season with the lead actor being the teacher and his students how respeced and like him as thiere teacher then the next seris they decided to replace the teach with billy connely and the first episode of that series there were tow students who were like RF and barks one was so in love with the new bloke and the other was still pineing for the old bloke ... every time i see the mud sling about GT vs RL fight between these two i remember that episode

Can I ask Andrew . . . who exactly was running the club?barks4eva wrote:The old board tried to instill Drain a few years ago, but no Thomas wanted to maintain the status quo and just give boy wonder a few more tasks to stuff up.
Let me get this straight . . . you think GT had total control over anything and everything remotely associated with football, was never denied a financial request from the board & it was his decision who was appointed as his boss?

The Board wanted a football manager - yes. They also (and rightly so) deserved to only introduce such a change with support from a coach who had gotten the club to Prelims - they were not at that time - going to drive over the top of Thomas and Id suggest for good reason - give him his head and show some faith in his position. They were wrong BUT lets not pretend under those circumstances at that time that simplistically "running rough shod" over a "good" coach was a smart thing to be doing - it wasnt.
Remember at the time Thomas WAS the football dept.........ultimately the Board made the absolute right call to dethrone a nutter whose 'belief cloud' had overshadowed the entire club.
Its simplistic and oh so Jeffery....to boorishly argue without any reference to context at that time.

Robert Harvey is a man of few words...he prefers actions to speak louder than words.........how immediate AFTER Thomas was gone and Lyon announced was it that the great man said he was playing on and not "exiting himself out"....

first of all, apologies for the long winded post.....
After reading this thread I am amazed at the incredible "Rod Butters" love that is going on. Am i the only one who is glad he is outta here?
I mean sure he handled the finances of the club well, full credit to him, but his performances in other areas were just plain embarassing. At the end of the day every other club with a comparable membership base is also turning over a profit every year, however their president isnt out in the media making a fool of himself (perhaps I should exclude Jeff Kennett here ).
The following things are what caused me to send my Footy First proxy in (the lack of spending in the footy dept was just a bonus):
- Hired his mate as a head coach when more qualified candidates were available
- Gave the coach unprecedented powers over the footy department. Everyone is banging on about how "courageous" a decision it was to take the powers off Thomas, but there is no responsibility for handing over those powers in the first place
- Lending the coach $1 million dollars. A clear conflict of interest given that Butters was responsible for paying Thomas his wages. Regardless of how it turned out (and it turned out very badly) this was NOT a professional thing to do.
- And the final nail in the coffin was that ridiculous outburst in the media where he unnecessarily brought unwanted bad media to the club. I remember my blood just boiling when i heard him say words to the effect of "GT is white-anting the club......but i wont say how or produce any evidence". Honestly what good did that do Rod?
Obviously other than the last one I think Thomas should be also credited with these things. But I m shocked at the number of posts blaming GT for everything and describing Butters as a Boy Scout who did everything right who was eventually martyred for his trouble by the evil Burke and Westway ticket.
I know I'm probably gonna cop a bit of abuse for this, but it had to be said. I'm just looking forward to having a president that spends less time in the society pages than Richard Wilkins for a change.

BTW, I know you worship Andrew and the levels of hate he's achieved, but do you really need to answer for him? I'm sure he's capable of answering the question (although I suspect like you he'll choose a hate filled rant instead).
