agree
I thought Allan Murray was pretty harshly treated after his debut .. didn't get much game time and got even less opportunities. I always thought he was a good foil for G & Roo and boy could he tackle.
murray was brilliant in his first game for us (against hawthorn if i remember correctly...Harvs dominated with a lazy 40 possesions and I think Goose may have had a game to remember as well)
Murray kicked the first and last goals of the match while snagging another 2 for a total of 4.
He tackled brilliantly and his pace was a real asset. However form and an arm injury saw him slowly diminish.

He looked sensational that day. On the back page of the Herald Sun was a great pic of him rejoicing in the rain: 'Allan Key' was the headline
He played well the next week, too, kicking two more as we defeated Brisbane, but his career faded from there.
Not up to it, sadly. Didn't work hard enough on the field, either.
Jonsey had a phenomenal start to his career. I admit, once back from injury his form was not where it was earlier in the year, but seriously, how many other senior players in our team dropped off in our last 5 games? Jones with a good pre-season should be firing. His hunger for the ball is outstanding and as he has shown, has been in the right place at the right time. Give him some time to develop. I expect him to have a similar effect to Gilbert next season with more games under the belt. I would have him in my side over Xavier and Raf any day. The amount of times I've watched those two turn it over is rediculous.

Was that a joke?
Jones has the worst kicking efficiency (51%) at St Kilda and probably the AFL. I'm guessing Xavier's would be at about 70% (which is ordinary), but his turnovers usually come from trying to do something spectacular. When he pulls off some of those incredible passes into the forward line it is awsome. Raph has made far too many turnovers so far in his time at St Kilda (his kicking efficiency would be in the mid 60's I think), but he has shown enough to suggest that his size, reading of the play and long-kicking will see him retire with at least 150 games under his belt.
Including Jones in the team because someone else makes too many turnovers won't get you far.

absolutely.
now I have read plenty to suggest CJs form in the magoos is good.
also he has reputation from the WAFL.
could it just be stage fright in the seniors? from what I've seen in senior games he looks like a 17 year old kid trapped in the headlights of an oncoming car when he's out there, not a 23 year old who should be approaching their peak.

No I was serious. X has had some great games, particualry in the first few rounds, other than that he has been way below par for his ability. I think he has great potential but I really think he has been letting the team down. Just my two cents
Well Id like to know where you get your statistics of 51%, so do you have a link? Even so, do we want a team player or someone who trys to do something spectacular? I like Jones because he is in and under the footy and is great at the 1%ers. In this day and age, 1%s win you games. Look at Stevie Baker for example. He may not always rack up stats but he plays brilliantly on opponants and keeps them quiet.
Criticize Jones if you want, but I think he will be a great player for the Saints and perhaps the next Lenny or Aussie. Hes had some great games, and a couple of shockers, but it was his first season. I would expect him to be alot more consistant in 08 and defiantly worthy of our starting 22. Which is more than I can say about Brookes, who so many want back yet was absolutely attocious on the field a year or two back and has no chance of fulfilling his potential.

Stats are from the footy record.
X lead the team for tackles inside 50 this year by an absolute mile. As well as that, he regularly set up and/or kicked goals. They are the things you want from a small forward.
Jones tries hard, but he runs around like a headless chook and turns it over every time he tries to kick the ball more than 25m or an opponent blocks his left side. He made a few tackles, but nowhere near enough to warrant selection on that alone. Only 1 goal and 1 goal assist (which came from a series of uncontested handballs between him and Fiora) from 6 games doesn't equate to bein dangerous inside 50 either.

Well I disagree, in the games I saw the first half of the year he was alot more accurate than that. He definatly did not turn it over everytime he kicked (otherwise his accuracy would be 0%).The 2nd half, when he came back from injury I agree, but definatly dont agree with that as a description of his overall season. I think he is what this team needs. Young, energetic, has alot of pace, confident and a ball-winner. Probably didnt even expect to play in the senior side this year. A great pre-season to develop and some solid training and Im sure his bad sides, which I believe are few will be gone quite soon. Look at Gilbert in 06 compared to 07, and I think Jonsey will do the same thing in 08. The kid has talent and drive. Get more games and training into him and we should see a great player. I remember some of Goddard and Montagna's early games, and look where they are now as players.

If Jones were an 18 year old, he'd probably get a lot more slack. Being that he's 23/24 (too lazy to look it up, would have been draft age in 2001, same draft as Montagna and X, the draft before Goddard, and 3 years before Raph), and the knock on him in the WAFL was his disposal, there isn't the same room for giving him 50-60 games across 3 or 4 years to figure it out.
He'll need a big 2nd season to be a real chance for being a guy that made it the hard way. IMO he's nowhere near the best 22 of a healthy St. Kilda list.

Awesome work....Thats just about describes me in a nutshell.
Well I guess time will tell with Jones. I am hoping for bigger and better things for sure. I don't think he is at his potential but we will know for sure next year. And yeah, I think you are right, hes about 23 I think. But Andrew Thompson was drafted at age 24 from memory, and although he had an average last 2 seasons, he was our captain for a season (i'm pretty sure...didnt last long though...) while and notched up quite a few games for us. So no point saying he too old, as many others have done it, but I agree, he does not have the time to develop, and we wont have the patience. Would have to be make or break next year I would think, but I think he will go on to be a solid player.
I just like to bag him. Disposable is shite. He just annoys me. Cant kick on wrong side. J Attard much better even though different players. ANyway, maybe he can float around the forward live and do u turns
