Barlow has Saints in his sights

Being named first emergency in a top-line game is a tough pill to swallow for anyone, but when you've had the impressive season Shepparton United's Michael Barlow has, you could rightly be disappointed.
Add to that the 19-year-old not being considered for the under-19 equivalent on the same day the final training for Victoria Country on Wednesday night did not produce great fortunes.
But the Morrison Medal contender is wasting no time lamenting what could have been, switching his focus immediately to the task at hand - Benalla tomorrow.
"They are all pretty good players, so I knew I'd be on the fringe," Barlow said of his nonselection.
"I've done no training (with the under19s), so I'll be playing for Shepparton United this week."
A revelation for United this season, Barlow has made a sweeping rise through the ranks at Deakin Reserve, with other sides now considering him a need-tonegate player.
However, Barlow has taken the new-found attention in his stride.
"I've got a bit stronger and I went through a bit of a growth spurt (during the pre-season)," he said.
"I'm pretty happy with where I'm at."
A key component in the Demons' 15-point win against the Saints in the season opener, Barlow said tomorrow's clash would be another good challenge for United which currently sits in second place.
"Since we first played them, they've had a lot of changes, so they are pretty unknown," Barlow said.
"They still have pretty good midfielders though, with (Rowan) Priest and (Adam) Cole.
"And with Dawesy (Sam Dawes) out and I'm not sure about Gibbo (Russell Gibson) it will be tough."

Shepparton Swans, who are second on the ladder, today host the undefeated Shepparton United. United has improved this season through the form of centre half-forward Matt Forys and former Carlton wingman Justin Davies, who plays everywhere. Michael Barlow, a 19-year-old midfielder, has become a star after adjusting to a growth spurt that took him beyond 190 centimetres.

Shepparton United 19-year-old Michael Barlow heads the youngsters who’ve been picked in the Victorian Country squad from which a team will be chosen to play the Victorian Amateurs next month.
Barlow, a midfielder who’s had a late growth spurt to 190 centimetres, has improved rapidly this season to lead United towards the top of the ladder in the Goulburn Valley league. Surprisingly, no players from the only club to beat United this season, Shepparton Swans, are in the squad.

The Under 18s Challenge Cup grand final was held on Sunday morning at Henson Park, and St Ignatius Riverview led all day to take a convincing 53-point victory over Manly-Warringah. Despite an inaccurate second quarter when they kicked 3.8, there was no way for the Wolves to work their way back into the contest. Ben Woods was awarded the match ball as best on ground, but it was a solid team effort by the school side; who have only been playing football for a few years, but have already taken out two premierships, had one player (Malcolm Lynch) drafted and another (Will Sierakowski) apprenticed to Hawthorn.
St Ignatius Riverview 5.3 8.11 11.18 13.19 (97)
Manly-Warringah 2.1 3.4 3.5 6.8 (44)
Goals : Riverview - M Ahern 4, N Fitzgerald 3, T Ryan 3, B Woods, W Sierakowski, M Somes. Manly - D Stroud, M Meadows, T Hickford, J Sheedy, L Cullen, J Dinale.

Found something on Rohan Bail, Mt Gravatt 18 yrs, around 185, 80k
Can play wing, mid and up forward, excellent pair of hands, kicked 4 goals in AFLQ GF. Massive motor (won 6k time trial), speed to get out of traffic, good skills, can get his own footy - needs to work on his decision making
From BF and a PM I received

Shepparton United/Assumption College(05)
Tall (around 6"2) slightly built, inside/outside, ball magnet in every sense of the word
Think Daniel Cross
Saw his first GV game, where he played a half in the 18's before it, and got 30 touches, then preceeded to get 40 possessions in his first outing of senior footy later that afternoon.
Got BOG in the AGSV vs APS game in 05', in which his direct opponent on the day was Xavier Ellis, Barlow amassed 39 touches.
Assumption College B&F Winner in 2005, was the hot pick for the Morrison Medal at the midway mark of this season (GV League Best and Fairest - For those interestate: The GV is probably the best country footy league in Australia) If he had of won, would have been the second youngest in history, ended up running 4th. Was selected in the combined Country Victoria side for 2007.
Is the sort of player that when you check the stat sheet, has had a mountain of ball without making a big impression. Always in the best couple on the ground, i.e Mr Consistent. Excellent football brain. On the slow side, but he has height on his side for a midfielder.

ROHAN BAIL TRAINING AT ST.KILDA
Tearaway wingman Rohan Bail, a four-goal hero of Mt.Gravatt’s grand final win in the Velocity Sports Cup AFLQ grand final, is doing a pre-season training stint with AFL club St.Kilda.
Bail’s two-week visit to Moorabbin, which began last week but had not been publicized, was confirmed yesterday when the AFL announced unlisted players who have been given permission to train with AFL clubs.
The only non-AFL Queenslander who has been given this privilege, he will be eyeing a possible selection in the 24 November AFL national draft or the rookie draft in December.
Will Hamill, uncertain of his future with the Lions after three years on the rookie list, and double knee reconstruction victim Pat Garner, de-listed but told he’ll be rookie-listed, have been given permission to train with the Lions.
Bail has an impressive family sporting pedigree. His mother Annette played hockey for Australia and father Garry is CEO of Hockey Queensland after playing U19s for St.Kilda and later working at the club. And it shows.
The 18-year-old Mt.Gravatt midfielder was the Round 1 nomination for the NAB AFL Queensland Rising Star award after a classy performance in the Vultures’ round 1 win over the Suncoast Lions.
He was also a member of the Queensland U21 side which beat the Victorian Amateur U19s in Melbourne in June and finished ninth in the Mt.Gravatt B&F.
He played every game this season, kicking three goals in the semi-final before his brilliant display in the grand final which saw him in strong contention for the Joe Grant Medal, won by teammate Ash Evans.
Born in Melbourne but a Queenslander since 1995, Bail is a Ferny Grove junior who had a stint at Sherwood before joining Mt.Gravatt.
He was a member of the Australia Post U18 Scorpions squad last year before missing the final selection cut, but put that disappointment behind him in outstanding fashion.
A keen St.Kilda fan who lists Lenny Hayes and Nick Dal Santo as his favorite players, Bail is also a fine all-round sportsman. He’s a much-decorated track & field athlete and cross country runner, having won numerous State titles, was a State junior baseball representative and also plays pennant golf at Keperra.

Funny About That Kyle Matthews Steve Obrien And Alex Silvagni Played More Senior Games Than Geary,Allan And Van Rheenan.Oh When the Saints wrote:And we had 4-5 of the Casey guys training with us last year.
None of 'em were any good, and obviously there were none who were thought good enough this year.

Perhaps thats one of the reasons why St.Kilda wanted a stronger connection with Casey, and why Casey decided to advertise for the senior coaching position?adobe wrote:Funny About That Kyle Matthews Steve Obrien And Alex Silvagni Played More Senior Games Than Geary,Allan And Van Rheenan.Oh When the Saints wrote:And we had 4-5 of the Casey guys training with us last year.
