Charlie Gardiner
Judging by his performance in the "Off-Season Popularity Game" I just want to stick up for Charlie..
I think it's unfair to jump on a player's back before he's even donned the Saints guernsey. The least he deserves is to be given some time in 2008 before being judged or scruitinised by us. I actually think he could blossom into quite a handy player for us - maybe a 25-30 goal a season forward. In his couple of games in 2007, he averaged about 15 touches a game so he can find the footy as well. Also remember his best performance being in the Prelim final against Brisbane in 2005 - where he was pretty much at the heart of everything good for Geelong...
Not every player on our list can be a star - due to this thing called a salary cap. Charlie is a player capable of doing a job at AFL level, and as we didn't give up anything to get him, could be a VERY handy pick-up for no loss (economists refer to this concept as opportunity cost). Gardiner becomes an important piece in the cog with the retirements of Hamill and Voss, and the de-listing of Sweeney - who else can play the third tall forward role? Goddard and GIlbert at a pinch? M Gardiner if he's fit and resting from the ruck??

I don't think that he should take it personally because I will be voting against him, Schneider, Dempster and King because as of yet they have done nothing for our club.
I would love it if he could come good and I will give him every chance to prove himself but would you rather he got voted out or Blake/Fiora/Birss etc.

Look guys, what I was trying to say is get off the guys case. I think he'll be great for the club. he knows how to find the footy & can finish in front of goal. (Something we've really lacked recently).
The cricket thing tho? I just think we should all get off our players back & get out to watch a summer sport!
Yeh, I love getting on this forum to see what everyone has to say, but why are we all so negative?
We think our players are untouchable, alot higher rated than everyone else, why do people have to bag a guy that hasn't even played for the club?
He's just been traded, he's got at least 1 year. Wait 'til that's over 'til you judge the guy!!!!

If Harvey was in he would win hands down, no one would come close and it is unfair to put him in. What player could beat him, and if anyone did beat him because people are looking at their value to the team from the last 2 years then it is an insult to the great man...sax wrote:That's what I'm saying!!!!
So, why the f**k are the new players included & Harvey's not???
Both ends of the scale I think, so WHO GIVES A F**K????

We got him as a makeweight in the Steven King deal, as he was contracted at Geelong and they didn't want to pay out his salary.
We've picked up the final year of his contract, which is why the Cats let us take a cut-price on King.
I'm not expecting anything of him - he clearly has a little bit of talent, but it's hard to see him cracking our first 22. He does offer reasonable back-up, however, and he does offer an alternative third-tall option.
Extremely intelligent kid: got an incredibly high ENTER (in the top 0.5 percent). May not assist him in being able to kick a footy, however.

I think the thing you need to keep in mind is that its a popularity contest.
He clearly isnt goign to be as popular as Banger, Roo and Gilbo!
Just because someone isnt the most popular kid in school, doesnt mean that everybody hates him and wants him gone.
I'm not gonna give popularity points to the kid, but I'm certainly not gonna take a shot at him.
