carlton pillages irish teen stocks

Post: # 481680Post bigcarl »

http://realfooty.com.au/news/news/carlt ... 65450.html

CARLTON has secretly signed four Irish teenagers in a bid to unearth fresh international talent as part of the club's aggressive assault on the top half of the league ladder.

Having already lured the AFL's No. 1 player, Chris Judd, and secured a prized priority draft pick, the Blues have adopted a recruiting system in Ireland akin to the old form-four deals to persuade talented Gaelic footballers to commit to the Blues.

Carlton has also convinced 2007 all-Ireland finalist Michael Shields, 20, to fly to Melbourne next month to spend a pre-season with the Blues with a view to placing him on the senior list.

good thinking by the blues. we should look at south africa.

australian rules is developing a bit of a following over there and there would be some talented kids not subject to the national draft.

those little bushmen have good endurance ... can run all day

Clever by the Blues. During a Gaelic season we should have our own scout based over there.

When you see players like Marty Clarke and Tadhg Kennelly, how can you not? It's a gold mine over there.

Running 20k's in the desert past lions and rhino's before swimming in crocodile-infested waters is a daily routine for them. I don't imagine men in singlets running around on beautiful patches of grass being an obstacle.

But then again, all that probably should've helped Eric the Eel Musumbani, but it didn't.

On a serious note though, we should pick up our token Irishman.

Marty Clarke has a lot of brothers who all play, around 8 I think.

His father was down to watch him play during the season and I got talking to him and asked him why he had so many kids.

He said he didn't know, but to make sure he doesn't have anymore he wears two condoms nowadays.

I said, "why two condoms?"

He said, "to be sure, to be sure."

Let's not get too excited - Cathal Corr proved on the handy side of useless :P

But definitely, we need to start looking globally in search of talent. It's there to be found, but we couldn't find it because Bevo couldn't drive to Dublin.

i've heard australian rules is being developed among young south africans quite a bit and is gaining an increasing following and i figure that if ireland can produce afl players then maybe so can south africa.

it's a nation of 40 million, so of course you'd find some good runners there.

i was there myself last year. an amazing place

Yep! That sounds like Carlton's recruiting policy.

Funny you say that, because a few weeks ago I went to a casino in Central Asia.

"Tibet?"

"Of course, why else would I go?"
