Justin Sweeney???

Post: # 480141Post sax »

Just a quick question, is it still possible for us to re-draft Justin Sweeney in the rookie draft if no-one else picks him up?
He was a pretty raw tallent when we picked him up & he's won the goalkicking at Casey this year.
Maybe his delisting is the kick up the butt he needed!
Obviously has a good forward presence & goalkicking ability!!!

Justin Sweeney
DOB 25/12/87 AFL Games-1
H-186cm
W-87kg

Casey Stats
2007 Goals - 33, Games-14
2006 Goals - 33, Games-13

I heard that after the cricket season he's booked in to have a shoulder reconstruction. Not sure how long that would keep him out for.

Re-draft Fergus Watts as a rookie, not Sweeney.

Sweeney needs more VFL development IMO.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Why not both as rookies? We've got room for 3!
Anyway, Sweeneys led the Scorps goalkicking two years straight, only played 13 & 14 games both seasons.
Shown a bit more than Fergus to be honest!
Being a rookie he would get more VFL development!!!

Unless there's something better available, I'd be in favour of rookie listing either or both. We're certainly short on key forward depth. Roo, Kosi, Allen are just about it.

Worth looking at what other clubs delist as well though. Ryan Willits is a monster sized forward if Port delist him.

Definitely worth a spot on the rookie list. I think it was a mistake in delisting Sweeney in the first place.

If Watts was available late in the rookie draft and we already had a young ruckman and key defender I would take him.

He seems to play 'above' 186cm in the VFL, but is he really capable of playing the tall/short option at the top level?

As in, could he play 100 games for us as a mid-sized forward and potentially be part of a premiership winning tea - or at least, as a back-up player, be in our best 25 players?

Lets NOT compare VFL form with AFL form. After all, Tim (Gumby) Elliott made the VFL rep side a few years ago !!

We need to move forward, take a punt with the rookie list rather than putting more time into players who don't have the determination to play AFL with St. Kilda.

He was delisted for a reason and it wasnt form. Will not be redrafted by the Saints. Also isnt having any operation.

same reason he failed to play in the Casey Seniors late in the season despite apearing to be in good form

I hope so because otherwise he will be sitting in the hospital until the end of cricket season.

I don't want to be jumping to any crazy conclusions here, but could there perhaps be something hanging over Sweeney's head that could preclude him from playing AFL in the future?

What was the reason? We don't hear anything in SA. Doesn't seem a smart move to leave your leading goalkicker out late in the season, then struggle to kick goals in a final, & lose!!!! :? :?

Niether Sweeny or Watts will get picked up by anyone, they are only reasonable VFL players at best, watched both of them all year at Casey...not good enough....they will not get picked up by an AFL club....I can't believe we gave a 1st round pick for Watts & Brooks at least Sweeny was a John Beveridge smokie...but still 2 years on our list he should have improved enough if he had the talent

Our best is yet
to come......
