Football incidents

Post: # 480589Post ausfatcat »

Found this it's quite good for a wikipedia page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Au ... _incidents

I liked these incidents.

85
Collingwood Reserves full back John Bourke is suspended for ten years for kicking the field umpire, pushing the field umpire, kicking Swans Reserves player Pat Foy in the groin, assaulting a Swans spectator and striking the Collingwood runner.

88
Stewart Loewe of St Kilda is fined $1000 for shaking a goal post while an opposition player shot for goal.

and then 5 years late Darren Wheildon is only fined $750 even though money was probably better, and surely penalties should get stricter not lighter, if I was loewe I would be fighting for $250 back...

Down at the Lakeside oval in the Reserves - or Army Reserves Cup?

If you can get your hands on the video footage of this, it is probably the all time great piece of footy commentary from Ray "Slug" Jordan as Bourke shoves and kicks the umpire to the ground, then after some resistance is escorted off by two trainers, only to break loose, jump the fence and decked some guy in the crowd.

Ooh he's hit the umpire.
That's unbelievable.
Take the boy off.
You've gotta take the boy off.
Geez he's given it some guy in the crowd.
He's done well the boy!

I've got it on a video somewhere (buried in a cupboard with dozens of unlabelled footy tapes).
Probably watched it 100 times over the years and always got a laugh out of it.
But I'm pretty sure it is on one of those compilations "Footy in the 80s".
So someone will probably have a DVD version they can download.
Great brain explosion - classic commentary.
And watch for the feet of the spectator to get airborne :D

I think Bourke was pardoned after about 4 or 5 years and went on to play in the Diamond Valley league ?

LOL Enrico....I was there at that game and about 50 metres from the incident....was an absolute classic. I might have the footage of that. My brother actually played in that game, but not mentioning names....and no it wasn't John Bourke.....smiles.

One of the "great" stories of football folklore.

John Bourke was and may still be a school teacher, taught my daughter many years ago.
