Demetriou is negligent re drugs/Cousins

Post: # 479201Post saintspremiers »

So we now have an expert (read Bigcarl's post) that has stated that ice can be performance enhancing PLUS he has stated that a 28 day stint in rehab is too short.

Sure, WCE vetted this and said it was all OK, BUT....the buck starts and stops with the AFL when such serious allegations as drug addicition is concerned.

I firmly believe now, given the weight of evidence publically available, that Demetriou has been negligent in his role as AFL CEO with the handling of the Cousins saga.

He is merely airbrushing the whole issue, pretending to be hard on the Eagles, but in reality doing virtually nothing.

IMO Demetriou currently has two options:

Option 1: Punish the Eagles for serial contempt of drugs within their club, by removing draft picks.

Option 2: Resign as AFL CEO.

I can't see an Option 3.....can anyone else at this point in time???

Cousins fall not AFL's fault: Demetriou
October 18, 2007 - 7:47PM

Ben Cousins falling "through the cracks" did not undermine the AFL's illicit drugs policy or West Coast's efforts to clean up their culture, league chief executive Andrew Demetriou said.

Demetriou said it was very unlikely that former Eagles skipper Cousins, sacked by the club on Wednesday night after being charged with a drug offence, would be allowed to ever play again.

That will be a topic of discussion at an AFL commission meeting next month, when a decision will also be made on whether to sanction the Eagles.

But the club is unlikely to face punishment, given Demetriou said the AFL had been keeping close tabs on them since they met the commission in April and he supported their handling of Cousins' case and other player disciplinary issues.

And for the dudes overseas...

He's responsible for a lot of things, Ben Cousins actions is not one of them.

But he IS responsible for how the issues are dealt with.

Get a clue FFS.
