E-mail from Archie RE Rookies
Hi all, sent this of to Mr. Fraser and he promptly responded...
(sorry if this has been posted somewhere I couldn't find)
"Hi Onder
Been a big few weeks at the club as we get everything in place for the lads return in a few weeks time.
I trust you are happy with the trade results and our new appointments off field.
Here are the details on the Rookies.
Upgrading Rookie Clinton Jones to the Senior List
Upgrading Rookie Jarryn Geary to the Senior List
Jayden Attard to be retained on the Rookie List
Robert Eddy to be retained on the Rookie List
Luke Van Rheenen to be retained on the Rookie List
James Wall has not been retained on our Rookie list and has been released
We are also highly likley to add one of our NSW Rookies to our Rookie list for the first time this year which is a product of our investment in NSW over the past few years this will be additional to our full Rookie complement of 6 Rookies for 2008
So we should have 7 Rookies in 2008 all going well.
All the best
Archie"

I know scholarshiup players are additional to the playing list, i am not sure whether its the main list or the rookie list though.saintsRrising wrote:Great news...but SEVEN rookies???
Is that possible?
Is therea special addition for the Scholraship players.?
I thought that we had fisrt choice to select them with our last pick in the main draft?
It is separte altogether but when you promote them you must be able to add an additional rookie to your list. I think we have 2 at the right age.saintly wrote:I know scholarshiup players are additional to the playing list, i am not sure whether its the main list or the rookie list though.saintsRrising wrote:Great news...but SEVEN rookies???

I'm surprised that Jones was promoted to the senior list, I would be surprised if he got much game time at all this year especially with Schneider now in the team...

I am so sick of hearing about how slow are midfield is, it's not that their slow it's that they can't run for a whole game, give them a decent pre-season and increase their aeorbic capacity and you will see that next year...TimeToShineFellas wrote:He was also one of the guys in the midfield that couldn't hit the SIDE of a sleeping elephant!GrumpyOne wrote:Jones was one of the few in our midfield last year who could outrun a sleeping elephant.mad saint guy wrote:Very happy with all of the decisions except for Jones.
IMO our number 1 priority should be our aerobic capacity, improve fitness and players will be bale to run harder and faster for longer and their skills will benefit aswell because they wont be too tired to kick the ball properly especially when on the run.

Skills can be learnt. With pace, you either have it or you don't.TimeToShineFellas wrote:He was also one of the guys in the midfield that couldn't hit the SIDE of a sleeping elephant!GrumpyOne wrote:Jones was one of the few in our midfield last year who could outrun a sleeping elephant.mad saint guy wrote:Very happy with all of the decisions except for Jones.

At 23 years of age and he STILL needs to learn how to put the pill on someone's chest?GrumpyOne wrote:Skills can be learnt. With pace, you either have it or you don't.
It's not as if he's a kid coming out of the TAC competition.........

Skills will not suddenly be learnt at age 24 when he has been playing football for most of his life. If he was an Irish guy who first kicked a footy in February then yes, he would probably improve. But he isn't and he has the worst kicking efficiency at St Kilda, and I would say the worst in the AFL. Below 75% is considered very poor at AFL level, while above 80% is good and above 85% excellent. Jones is at about 51%.GrumpyOne wrote:Skills can be learnt. Yeah, Jayson Daniels improved his kicking out of sight in his 173 games and 11 years playing top-level footy.GrumpyOne wrote:Skills can be learnt.
