A Wish List for Supporters/off field for New Board

Post: # 469987Post jill »

:D Some things I hope New Admin will take on board - add yours - this is OFF-FIELD SUGGESTIONS!!! mine are in No Particular Order:

.When a Hero like Harvey has a Testomonial there are tickets price/wise that true believers can afford!
.Like-wise tickets to Barker Medal!
.It's easier to sell $1.00 OR $2.00 Raffle tickets - even to opposition fans- & we may even make more money!!
.We want to BELONG - Sections at the Dome that are St.Kilda/Social Club Members ONLY without having to pay EXTRA !!! That would bring lots of disenchanted x-members back! Won't happen over night but advertise & give it time.
.Don't send us useless tins/junk we can't use/wear proudly
.Check Membership List CAREFULLY address-wise so we don't duplicate [but when family gives membership as a gift check Form - my nephew never recieved Age offer in spite of phone calls]
.Return Big Screen wherever "home" is for interstate games - including Finals [not that we'll need to worry as we'll finish Top 2]
.Have Club functions that more can afford!! $100.00+ a ticket may look good on paper as a fund raiser - but bet we'd MAKE MORE with $25.00 -$50.00 tickets - STOP EXCLUDING the rank & file members!!
.PHEW!! Not a bad start to this Post methinks!! So will just finish with chucking in a Premiership - :D :D would top my wish list -BUT - AGAIN LET ALL WHO BLEED/BELIEVE READ,BLACK &WHITE SHARE in the occasion not just the corporate jhonny/come lately's.

Jill - did your pop live near the ground in Moorabbin like mine?? I can only boast 46 years support but feel like I know you. I agree in particular about the big screen needing to be revived for all interstate matches. Saintsational members were often looking for somewhere to gather during this season particularly when foxtel carried the match.

Not sure it is possible to have functions at less then probably $120 a head unless it is a crap function. Raffles are not done by footy clubs anymore they are done by companies that specialise in that stuff and having sold tickets for small figures eg $1.00 or larger amounts $5 you always make more with the larger amount with less overheads so cannot see that happening. The social club area at the dome has to be different to other areas otherwise it gives even less incentive to be a social club member.

Surely there is someone that can sort this out ?

Every game we play should be live on TV at the social club. Now I know that GW responded "yes, as long as it is commercially viable", and this is critical.

We certainly don't want to lose money, but surely a little planning could see it profitable most of the time ?

My Pop took me to the Junction Oval - also have fond memories of queuing there with Billy Moir's widow-we couldn't believe she HAD to queue yet she was there near us in all the home games - just didn't know her 'til then[she was also there in the Moorabbin days] Hopefully we NOW have greater respect for past champs families. Mum drove me & litle sis to check out Moorabbin[read paddock] we were in tears prior but quick drive meant watching training!!Tears soon dried[only to come again Wav.Telstra BUT move onward, forward for the ultimate prize- the PREMIERSHIP ps Pop never saw it but 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren did - now I want the next generation to enjoy it too[the Tradition/brainwashing continues] :D :D :D :D

Plugger66 sometimes the Big buck ,particularly in this day & age looks good on paper but as I said the more you reach the more you might make & it doesn't necesarily mean a "crap" function unless you're now talking "elitism" which is exactly what I'm trying to combat! We've ALL been conned - LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM , IT'S THE GRASSROOTS SUPPORTERS that Clubs still need/rely on for Membership - am sick of fickle corporate sponsorship - let's face it - the AFL still counts Membership!!

I belong to a local footy club and our dinner dance costs $100 and we make no profit and that is in a basic venue. An AFL club must have functions in big venues and it costs at least $120-140 a head without any profit to the club.

I was led to believe that is why Dana was selected for the SKFF ticket - to help the club make profits on club functions. Burkie is keen for the club to run social activities that are accessable to all members.

Jill, I suggest that you cut and paste your initial post on this thread and email it to the club specifically addressed to Burkie. I will be bringing up this matter also - as soon as I can get Burkie cornered. He did state this very clearly, so I am not about to let him forget it.

plugger66, You are right in what you say about the costs of functions these days but I have faith in the expertise of Dana - GW and NB said that she can work with the staff to reduce costs to ensure higher profits. They made it clear that they were not critising the work the staff are currently doing but believe that they need further resources.

Another reply to Plugger66 - yes I too am involved with local groups that use that level of funding - BUT - they like your local footy club don't have the no's! All I'm trying to say is that we have no's at St.K - let ALL have a chance to be participants - NOT just the wealthy!! My sister & I would have loved to have gone to Harvey's testamonial [& willing to
pay the $i125.00l or was it $150.00?] but THEN sold out /postponed not enough tickets sold!! Following year - testomonial back on - $125.00 tickets Still SOLD OUT -NO place for us supporters unless we've got Big $'s to thank the bloke we cheered for when he ran out as a kid. St.Kilda has a huge supporter base - we ALL love a bargain - just watch the rush on our over-priced apparrel[?sp] sale. NOW THAT'S ANOTHER THING !!! Make gear /souveniers cheaper!! They're WAY overpriced!!!! $5.00 - $10.00 less - sell more!!

That is fine but I still say functions like Harvs testaminial will never be cheap functions. They will always be at least $120 a head even up to $160 and they will not really make much money on those.

well you could be right ... that type of function will always cost the members somthing substantial - but if a few strings are pulled in the right places - surely more money can be made.

Time will tell, just how much substance there is in their words but I definately heard the words 'cut expenses in half' ... I come from the school that says never say never - even winning a GF

Jill again!! Plugger66 how much does a dinner REALLY cost? MORE tickets at a lower price may not have resulted in the EMBARASSING POSTPONEMENT of Harve's testamonial.

PLUS another Poster has suggested I "cut & paste!" Why has it taken me SO LONG to get onto SAINTSATIONAL? Because computers are so new to me! I have no idea how to cut & paste!!
PLUS would love to know how you do the fabulous photos/nicknames - if I find out can I start again?

Plus Saintsational has now become an addiction! Is there any cure? :D :D :D :D

Agree - I would like to know just how much we actually make on lots of things - i.e. How much money do we make out of the BigPond/AFL/Saints site; If it is susbtantial I'll shut up because it should be - paying for the bandwidth to download BigPond advertising that is weighing down the site in a year for the avaerage fan is quite substantial.

You seem to be picking up the knack of using Saintsational pretty quickly Jill. I can help you to cut and paste if you want. If there is anything you need to know on 'How to do it' on Saintsational jusk ask - there is always someone around to abuse you for not knowing and plenty of others that are more than willing to help.

Oh by the way - you can refer to me as the 'other poster' if you wish but most people call me 'The Peanut' for obvious reasons.

Spinner i don't agree, that is quite elitist, and in this thread quite provocative. I don't believe that St Kilda need to put a cap on our membership. Could you tell us the reasoning behind that? Jill's put in a good argument about inclusiveness, i'd like to see your response.

One thing i've been thinking about for a while.... why doesn't our footy club field some 'reserves' teams? I don't mean Vfl or anything like that but get involved with some local club competitions.... really get involved on a community level. Maybe it's just me but i think people would be willing to give alot more to the club if they felt more involved, even if it were just a token gesture like that.

AND before i get the spiel about how it would deteriorate the moorabbin grounds to have some extra training sessions, remember that the redevelopment plans will turn it into a public park anyway.

anyway it's late
