Pull Banger out of the total games stat at the end of next year (nearly 400 games by then) and the total will get down to around 2200. that will mak us nearly one of the youngest lists.

this is where statistics start to be misleading. We had a high games played total at the start of 07, but the reality was that a handful of players had played a big chunk of games and skewed the overall figure.
That just shows you that we have hardly blooded any players in the last 3-4 years due to terrible recruiting. Now that we have lost most of our core group of experience players due to retirements, we are left with a massive group of players with next to no senior experience.
The problems we are facing now will take time. RL may have wanted to delist 5-6 players now that he has had 12 months to evaluate the list, but due to us having 5 players retire this season ( M.Clarke, Gehrig, Hamill, Thommo, Voss) he isn't in a position to do so.
Trade week should be interesting, and more importantly John Peake has a massive task in getting our recruiting back on track

Yes, our list has been poorly managed.

You shouldn't have 5 players retiring in one year, especially with a combined total of over 1000 games experience between them (a third of the list's experience).

It leaves too big a hole at once, and unless you are preparing for a couple of years down the bottom, this sort of mass retirement isn't ideal.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Agree and it makes an assault on a premiership or even finals very difficult for next year. Does this mean we are in a mini re-builing fase? We still have quality on our list, but there are more and more gaps now.

And hack pup is out again, bowled without troubling the scorers.

About lots of things.

But in this instance, about 2007 being the last crack until a 2 year hiatus.

Ask Joffaboy, Teflon and B4Eva what I'm talking about.

We argued heatedly about it for months.

Of those 5 only one demanded a spot in our best 22 so the effect will hardly be noticed. This window of oppurtunity thing is still the biggest crock of shyte in football if anything our Geelong has shown us our window is just opening with the core of there players between 24 - 30 just as ours is.

It was a blink and you'll miss it link at the bottom of the article to a now removed thread on bigfooty.

Bingo.

Although I do believe in list balance.

10-20% young.

70-80% mid.

10-20% old.

With our retirees we are short in the olds right, and we are short in the youngs.

But in 1-2 years when youngs come through and Lenny, Max, Milne etc. are our olds we will be in prime position.
