AFLPA Most Valuable Player
Gary Ablett Jnr won the award but I found it interesting that not one St Kilda player voted for Jonathan Brown who was the clear runner-up.
They also showed footage of Banger and Butterss on a stage somewhere each holding a glass of champagne. Butterss was shown losing his footing spilling his champagne all over poor Rob in the process.
Anyone able to get the footage online?

Interesting that Bartel didn't figure in the awards.
I think the Brownlow has increasingly become an award for the hardest-working midfielder rather than necessarily the most talented and dangerous player (although sometimes this can be one and the same person).
For mine, GA jnr has been the player of the year by a country mile. It's good to see him getting some sort of an award for it (particularly as I don't think he's particularly likely to get a premiership medal this afternoon).

the AFLPA MVP is so over rated as an award
i actually think the brownlow is arguably a better indicator
think about it, the players each give one vote...a holistic approach to the entire season
this is silly...how many games do the players watch a year? i know they prepare for each side once or twice, but anyone who thinks any saint saw more than 10 geelong games this year is way off
and yeah, they play against them...once or twice...
by virtue of being without criteria and being retrospective in nature, it is not a very good award
the players opinions of their peers when considered in this manner is going to be heavily influenced by the media...if you're not watching geelong's games but you hear someone say Ablett's playing well, and ablett then plays well against you, the rest is just supposition...
it is not accurate and the players are very prone to manipulation by the media
the only people i would trust is the clubs themselves...therefore, the best indicator is a club B&F
so, i guess there is no way to accurately assess who is the best player in the comp
but the aflpa mvp is seen as being the 'real' award, whereas the brownlow is a dirty little umpires award when in fact, the brownlow runs on a better system (weekly voting) and is probably a better award

yeah, the AFLPA MVP is a popularity award, extremely influenced by the media, and Gary Ablett is the medias love-child
there are many better players in the AFL, Gary Ablett benefits from playing in the top team in the comp, an un-injured Chris Judd is miles ahead of Gary Ablett

i think the guy who put $340,000 on Geelong by over 39.5 points might just be slightly ahead of uQuixote wrote:I think I should be voted Punter of the Year

Geelong over 39.5 and Johnson to win the Norm
I did, and
