i think its downright embaressing...
what kind of club that wants to be taken seriously would advertise looking for a sponsor???
reading the full page in the age made me cringe...as it did the people i work with...who arent exactly the intellectually gifted (i work in a department store part time + uni)
this did not need to be done
i don't know about anyone else but i am rather pissed off as it makes us look like children playing in the adult world where everyone else gets sponsorship dollars however we have to advertise and seemingly beg through mass-media...

My sister knows Bono who said he would put on "Make Saints Poverty History"show IF we vote for Greg....Rooy_coin wrote:hey ... i was at the greg westaway confrence today in wodonga and he said that we have at least two major sponsors that the club will consider and we have about 4 sponsors not as big as the majors but he said that we will look into them but he did not mention any names.

Hi all long time reader, rarely a poster
I work in a media buying agency
We had no idea the Saints property (a) delivered the metrics in the ad and (b) that they were still looking (we assumed they had partners lined up - maybe they do).
As a result of the ad we started discussing internally about our client base.
As for looking desperate, our view was it was innovative.
Thought this might add to the debate.

yes it is fair dinkum - we did discuss it seriously, we even called oztam to confirm the details
we thought it was a risky approach but as I said we didn't know 16 mil watch the saints on tv - that's a big number in our business

my question exactuallyMr Magic wrote:Where does the 16 mil figure come from?GreatNo9s wrote:hi again

Thanks, I thought it may have been this but it's good to have it confirmed.GreatNo9s wrote:It would be the cumulative TV audience for each of the 22 rounds
I know Friday nights rate over 1.0m viewers
Foxtel games rate in 150-200k or thereabouts
I think we only had 5 games on Fox this year ?
So why is this figure of 16 mil appealing to a sponsor?
WHat would make us an attractive sporting club to sponsor?

Welcome GreatNo9s
Thanks for adding your expertise to the debate - much appreciated.
I hope you continue to post - sound like an informed member (we need a few more around here!)
I can't believe people are upset with the club trying to get sponsors.
Even if you hate RB's guts, the fact that the St Kilda Football Club is possibly getting $$ can only be a good thing.
Yes, it might seem cringeworthy, but if it works is anyone complaining?

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.
our game is about reach and frequency
how many people can my advertising I reach ?
what sort of ppl is my ad reaching ? eg we know the avg AFL goer is male 18-35 but the AFL watcher on TV is more 50/50 male female - so the tv audience for AFL is good. our numbers are compelling given the size - 16 mil in 6 months
how many times is my ad going to be seen ? 4-5 times in one TV show is about right 6+ times in one show starts to get wastage - eg viewers start to switch off
when are they viewing ? The AFL draw is predictable once it's set - good for planning an ad buy
while we can laugh (or cry) about us never being dull if the numbers are right a brand would consider the exposure we can deliver to Saints fans and the fans of other clubs who watch us play...
hope this helps
