15 other clubs did not have him on the radar

If Sweeney has been delisted so that CJ can be elevated, or we can recruit some more players as exciting as Birss, then I for one am not going to jump up and down for joy.
I'd have sooner seen the likes of Ferguson or even McQualter moved on: at least they've both been given a reasonable go at the AFL level.
No argument with delisting Raymond: he never did enough to get onto anyone's radar screen.

no...we can be hopefull for all our draftees but they all arent going to become stars...not even gop'shomework wrote:I had big wraps on Justin Swenney i thought he would be the next russell robertsonSaints Premiers 2006 wrote:there was no room for him in our sidehomework wrote:its a shame that we never gave sweney a real go
big deal
life moves on
and i would hope that justin sweeney would have wanted to become the first justin sweeney
not the second of some other guy

Not entirely true, draftees have to be offered at least a two year contract, but some have been cut after one (I believe Essendon did it to a player last year)fonz_#15 wrote:it could never have been him since he had only een on the list 1 year and draftees must play at least 2skeptic wrote:Do u guys r'ber when TS40 got the axe, it was rumoured that the day b4 the deadline that 1 more Saint may cop it too...
we all thought that that mysterious Saint may have been Raph Clarke but the rumour mill has it that was Sweeney that may have gone due to his attitude.
He did make a bit of a late season surge to keep his spot but by then IMO it was pbly too late... when you're not an amazingly gifted player you have to work 100% 100% of the time to make it and he pbly didn't

Is there a possibility we will do the same thing we did with Fergoson last yr and pick Sweeney up with out last pick?
Corect me if im mistaken, but a club must delist 3 players per season
From what i have seen ON THE FIELD of sweeney there is something there, hopefully something like this wakens him up to what he can potentially achieve.

both delistments not suprising.
sweeney struggled since he came back from injury, only played casey 2nds for the last month of the season and was battling with certain perceptions within the club.
That makes five. I do not think we will make anymore delistments before the trading period (we will upgrade out rookies before the trading perhaps if anything).
My gut feeling is if voss hangs up the boots both fergs and brooks will be saved (brooks saved because of G retiring, fergs saved because of fisher being moved into the midfield holding role after the attard injur/baker suspension).

doubt that will happen...if the club wanted to retain sweeney, they would not have had to delist him, only to re draft him since 3 players had already excited the club.super dooper wrote:Is there a possibility we will do the same thing we did with Fergoson last yr and pick Sweeney up with out last pick?

Also there is no guarentee that we would pick him back up if he was nominated for the draft, i can confirm that there is interest from 2 other clubs that are talking to him.

not suprised that it would not have changed their decision but I wonder if there is any hope of bluffing in this day and agefonz_#15 wrote:would think not...wouldnt have changed their decision though so its irrelevant and sweeney all but knew he was on the way out.Solar wrote:Did the saints know this before the delistment was done?fonz_#15 wrote:homework wrote:i would just like to know thats all
