Yeah, absolutely.
BUT....any trade would have to be heavily skewed in our favour. He'd have to be available very cheaply (late, late pick/dud pkayer) and be on low wages.
I'd love to get him right and get five years of good footy out of him (what are we hoping to get out of Barry Brooks? One good year? Two if we're lucky? Seriously - he's already 25 next year, McG is currently 26, and I know who'd I'd rather).
Sheesh, what an asset he'd be if we could get a full pre-season into him.

It's certainly not a deal which would headline trade week, but when you think of the players on our list occupying a spot who are no longer 18-20 and who's AFL contribution is dwarfed by McG's (Ferguson, Sweeney, McQualter, Brooks, R Clarke, Blake, Rix, Gwilt, Birss), he doesn't look so bad.
I hate it when people just say "No, I don't like him" - pfft, for god's sake, would you prefer to have Rix? Or M Clarke?
I look at him as a Kosi clone - capable of rucking (if the situation called for it - he's 195cm, 6cm on Blake) and more than able up forward. Obviously not in his league, but definitely capable of having a serious impact.
Interestingly, kicked 18 goals this year in 9 games and had under 8 touches only once - not bad. I thought his 2005 year was excellent, actually.
Yes, we need to keep developing youth. Yes, I'd rather give Watts a go, Yes, I think drafing is the best option. Yes, I hate top-ups as much as the next guy.
However, I feel this is a case of a player who could provide real benefit and excellent back-up, and cost almost nothing.
In addition, with Hamill almost on his last legs, I wouldn't mind seeing if we could turn him into a Mooney-type...

McGregor is a very good player. Of course we would want him at the right price.
But I would have thought he would be snapped up by a club with better draft picks to offer in a swap and more salary cap room with which to pay him than we have.

Yep - hard to disagree with that.st.byron wrote:Only if the deal is skewed in our favour. It would have to be a very late pick or bottom 10 player and a late pick at worst.
Not much more to be said. Still early days however and if a deal is done, great, if not, we won't be losing sleep.
Also very true and must be remembered.meher baba wrote:McGregor is a very good player. Of course we would want him at the right price.

As I posted last time his name came up...
He is not quick enough to play FB...
He is not a mid..
He is nota ruck.
He is therefore not one of our prioirties.
Do we really need another forward to compete with Watts for a place at Casey?
Or are we eant to Trade Goose...so we can play him at CHB

He's probably entering his prime, and has been good for the Crows when they've given him a chance this year. But we probably don't need him, not tall enough for rucking, and to slow to play full back. Would be good as a CHB or a target up forward, but is there any real need for another KPP player.
And hack pup is out again, bowled without troubling the scorers.

I think there will be other clubs that need a player like McGregor more than we do, and hence will come up with a lot more attractive offer. Is a good player, but I'm not too sure we need another 6'3" ? forward when we have the likes of Watts sitting in the magoos all season. Not quick enough to play down back IMO, so he is a forward who does a bit of pinch ruckwork.

Now this is one trade I would definately be interested in.
Lance or James??

Screw Teague off (finished as an AFL player), and Chick to be considered only if he's cheap both in contract and trade price.
...but he will be 32 next year and I'm not sure we need his type of player. So I'd probably pass. A shame, because having him would probably free up Gram to go further up the ground and allow Goddard to play HFF.
Was great last night.
However we need to have a crack at some of their younger midfielders. Selwood, Rosa, Hurn - really go hard for them. And Chad Fletcher, yes, he's someone we need to dabble at as well.
With Priddis, Braun, Cousins, Kerr, Judd and Embley all pretty much untradable, we need to attack the others who are on the fringe of their best 22.
