Overall Fitness SAINTS in 2007
Repeated Failure to run out a game .
string of lost final quarters.
ALSO ...... badly need more goal kicking training / practice .
In 2008 minus Gehrig ......who will deliver ?

i was listening to archer on fox's 'on the couch'...reckons they went back to flogging the players on the training track......cut out all the sprint work and went for the distance training.....seems to have worked..........
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Agree, fitness levels must improve for 08, cost us a finals spot no doubt...I'm sure RL will be making them work very hard on this area over pre-seasonaussiejones wrote:Repeated Failure to run out a game .

As for goals, be looking for a bigger output from Rooey and Kosi.....hopefully either Brooks or Watts can developed into a quality 3rd tall

We've lost those last quarters largely due to our engine room running out of puff - probably more injury-related fitness issues than the club will let on. Our forward line was rubbish this year with up and down form from too many players. We needed Max's and Goose's hard bodies in good form down back, but again injury stepped in during the season and prevented us form having a settled 100% fit lineup. The teams in the four especially have been plain lucky with injury and managed to keep a settled team across most lines -that helps a lot towards winning.

Similar problem in the athletics world with many sprint coaches nowdays ... believe you can run 100 and 200m off power and strength work ... none of the times or condition of the athletes are as good as under the older coaches, where a 100m runner would still do his 400 reps in training.stinger wrote:i was listening to archer on fox's 'on the couch'...reckons they went back to flogging the players on the training track......cut out all the sprint work and went for the distance training.....seems to have worked..........
From what I hear, Mulkearns is a tough task master, so hopefully we follow a similar path.
They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

RL has had a year .....
He has tried a few things ,(hopefully flooding is to be forgotten).
He now should know what he has to work with .
What we need is to start pre-season early and get a solid pre-season in.
Start 2008 with a reasonably complete injury free list .
Just concentration on fitness and eliminating skill weaknesses.
They are full time professionals . Very well paid to do nas they are instructed.
Each have weaknesses that need work .
Take a leaf out of Harveys career ...one of the hardest workers ... worked on his weaknesses ........ still going strong .

Injury prevention and then the recovery management from injury are the 2 most important footballing challenges, in my view, our club has.
The President said this area is being prioritised. If it's not, he loses our 4 votes.
Its not a matter of luck,it comes down to effective management.
Will be interesting to see how the Cats handle this over the next month. Egan was the key to their defence.
