Ryley was behind the MCG goals at midday, watching the Saints warm up, when Gehrig trotted over to say hello. "He said, 'I've got a little secret for you, I'm retiring. But I have a present for you. You can have it after the game'," Ryley said yesterday. Moments before the match, the rest of the crowd was let in on the secret that it was Gehrig's final match when he ran down to the cheer squad, applauded and waved goodbye.
