Gehrig ... misunderstood ?
Fans see his antics and frustration but ...he is a real professional
see RL comment
"Lyon said Gehrig's professionalism had been a pleasant surprise for the new St Kilda coach.
"His value to the team? Good luck replacing 60-goal forwards," Lyon said.
"It's not only what he does on the field…Fraser hasn't missed a session, he's one of our hardest trainers.
"He never complains with injury and he really leads the group well.
"All I've got for Fraser are compliments."

Hang on a sec - what are we meant to think when he plays those pathetic, two-possession games against half-decent defenders?
Seriously - perspective required.
He's refined the art of bulldozing crap defenders whilst getting murdered by good ones.
If he's still the player people make him out to be, he'll kick 4-5 this week on Darren Glass, yeah? I think that's fair.
Mind you, if we kick it to him on a lead, he probably will. For his size, he's the worst wrestling forward in the comp. He's shocking at it and gets very frustrated. He's by far at his best when he's on a lead - and we kick it out in front of him.
He's at the Dome, too. No excuses, Fraser.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
i think you have to look across a season.
if its so easy to kick bags why isn't everyone doing it?
on form he is one of hte top 5 forwards in teh competition, given he has carried a leg and hand injury thats pretty good.
the brions stretched out lynches career for two reasons.
1. he takes a good defender.
2. dont show him enough respect he'll murder you.

I think what's most frustrating Dan is that when Gehrig has a bad game, he does nothing.
Why can't his bad games be ones where he kicks two goals, has 12 touches, lays six tackles and creates heaps of forward pressure?
He just doesn't work hard enough when things aren't going right for him. He often ambles up the field at half-pace, but then fails to apply any pressure. I don't know if you can forgive that in this day and age when everyone needs to pull their weight.
I just wish he would sort himself out and that even if he wasn't having a blinding game, he could still make a big difference by a) causing headaches for the opposition by working hard and b) creating massive forward pressure.
Not too much to ask, surely?

Name one player that we have that can do that? The only player i can think of that can kick 2 goals in a poor game consistently in the comp is Lloyd but he doesn't really tackle or create forward pressure.evertonfc wrote: Why can't his bad games be ones where he kicks two goals, has 12 touches, lays six tackles and creates heaps of forward pressure?

Perspective required people - how can you create forward pressure when you are up on a wing chasing kicks? Or WAITING for someone with the ball to honour a lead that may - shock horror - end up being contested by an extra man back or a lunging defender?
Whilst he has gone missing on occasions for this year (with some truly horribly returns... and even a non-return) some of his diminished performance can be attributed to the way we set him up.
I share the toffs' frustration with the 0 returns and weaker performances but this year I don't think it's wholly his fault. And to perform poorly against the better defenders... there's a reason why Scarlett and co. have earned that tag.

he's leading the AFLPA poll of the week- as most valuable player for rd 20
http://www.aflpa.com.au/
Who was Round 20's Most Valuable Player?
4% Heath Shaw (Coll)
0% Matthew Lloyd (Ess)
44% Fraser Gehrig (St K)
11% Jonathan Brown (BL)
26% Daniel Kerr (WCE)
15% Kane Cornes (PA)
0% Gary Ablett (Geel)
0% Scott Welsh (Ade)
why aren't disallowed possessions allowed as numbers against a player? one of the games where Fraser reportedly didn't touch the ball he actually took a amark and kicked a goal - which was disallowed due to indiscretion by another player-

true, sometimes his frustration gets on top of him. i remember plugger suffering from the same syndrome at times. in his defence i will say that when he plays a shocker the ball has hardly got down there and we're being beaten in many positions, not just full forward.evertonfc wrote:He just doesn't work hard enough when things aren't going right for him. i agree with lyon that 60-goal forwards are hard to replace
still should have had 5 goals...and if he didn't have a busted hand...he would have had more.......evertonfc wrote:Thought he was absolutely murdered by Glass tonight.

I was not at allsurprised he got towelled up tonight - exactly like Im not surprised he gets towelled up against Scarlett?? why??.......these guys are very good backs and they know they simply have to win a few contest/get on top of Gehrig ....run off him for insult....and his mind and ability to NOT be able to work himself into a gamed will do the rest.
To be fair to Gehrig - skill level/delivery after half time was pathetic.
I thought Riewoldt demonstrated why he is a freak to come into the game so much i the last under enormous pressure - we went to him everytime....

Aye, because if it's not a good time to analyse your team the night they play for a spot in the finals, is it?stinger wrote:still should have had five goals...geez you are a nit picking lot.....plugger66 wrote:Not busted last week. Under pressure, against good opponants...I mean, they're the teams you need to beat, but hey, I guess it makes it harder to write glowingly about our players.
