I agree with all these changes.borderbarry wrote:We cant go into the last 3 games with the same line-up. We must make changes. I tend to think our selectors/coaching staff are too conservative or gutless.
I would bring in Thommo for Jones, McQualter for Attard, Ferguson for L.Fisher, and Brooks/Watts for Gehrig.

I addressed this in the "go all out, or shut up shop" thread.
Based on current form, in both VFL and AFL, here are some possible changes. Of course you're not going to make 6+ changes, but these are the possibles for in and out this week.
* named in best for the Scorpions
+ if injured
In: Voss*, Brooks*, McQualter, Watts*, Ferguson, Birss, Thompson
Out: X. Clarke, Jones, L. Fisher, Attard, Gilbert+, Gehrig, Blake.
Voss for X. Clarke
Brooks for Blake
McQualter for Attard
Watts for Gehrig
Ferguson For Gilbert+
Birss for Jones
Thompson for L. Fisher
However, if Lyon is trying to persuade Gehrig to go on next season, dropping him probably would be the final nail in the coffin for his retirement.

But if we jumped into RL's brain right now.....
only voss wont get a game cause he's too slow
brooks, nah he's a hack isn't he?
mcqualter... is he still on our list?
nah gehrig needs to play cause then he will stay on next year
ferguson? who?
nahhhhhh jones will be a gun, brownlow material.....
maybe if I asked the group they might want thompson......

Voss is a MUST inclusion, imo.
Has kicked goals in the VFL in every game he's played in. BOG against Tasmania. Knows where to be to get the ball and this is exactly what we need in our forward line.
Can provide protection and dummy leads for Gehrig and Kosi, and while his pace isn't fantastic, who can say no to his football brain and on field leadership. Also, it was Voss that made Goose look like a premier CHB imo.

Yes, definitely play Rix because he layed 7 tackles.
Thats why we recruited a 200cm 100kg RUCKMAN so that we could improve our tackle efficiency for an overall game.
Kicks Handballs and Effective hitouts dont matter.
Nice Work.

no to rock.
please no to rock.
as for RL he has shown he can be adaptable by opening up our attack and free flowing football.
why that has changed after adelaide and WCE i dont know but RL obviously knows what st kilda can do.
I was applauding him for 'evolving' with the team 4 weeks ago.
we seem to have reverted to fugly football again, is it because of the preseason and early season strategies? is the mesage not getting through?
we are still at the 1/2 way point and while it is a struggle we can make the finals.
Rock offers nothing over lyon.
Silvagni will never be a st kilda person, and I dont think he can be converted, he is still and always will be a blue (a la spud at collingwood and richmond)
we need to get someone who is either saints or so professional as to not tell the difference, with enough passion in the belly and the respect of the players to get the job done if RL must go, but he has a few more weeks left to turn it around and he has shown he can.

Ins: Watts, Voss
Outs: Gehrig (give him a rest maybe let himn go back home for a week!)
Attard (rest him also)
Watts and Voss HAVE to be rewarded they have been playing bogs in the VFL for a month now. 7 goals is a great feat should be rewarded.
Dont sacrifice Xavier just yet he is finding the ball stick with him because when he hits targets he can be BOG.
Wasnt all bad from last night. i think we were outcoached more than anything.

Why not just ask Gehrig to retire?
He is horribly out of form, looks disinterested and is at the end of his contract.
He is not going to be a part of our next premiership side, so why one earth would you keep playing him?
Especially when you have another key forward in the two's kicking 7 and another ruck/forward getting in the best every week?

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

no way gtrain will be dropped.
our entire forward line setup is based on him. Regardless of whether he gets a posession or not.
Personally i think the only value he has to our team is the fact that he takes a quality defender.
he's a very one dimensional player and even that one dimension has been useless for most of the season.
but while we still have a chance at finals he will stay in the team.
if we lose next week however, id like to see watts or kos up there for the last couple of rounds.

In how many games have Voss, Brooks and Watts been close to BOG?
I would be expecting these guys to be in the best players nearly every week before the move to the senior list.
OK Watts kicks 7. He is not that quick and the at the next level this could be as low as 2 goals. With our wonderful support for goals from teh midfield we could be lucky to score 50 points in a game.
The midfield is where some young guns need to be elevated.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Voss has been in our best players since he was dropped to the VFL.kalsaint wrote:In how many games have Voss, Brooks and Watts been close to BOG?
Brooks had a slow start to the year, but has been in the bests 5 out of the last 6 weeks (possibly 6 of 7)
Watts was (only) averaging 2 goals per game before his 7 goal haul.
Sweeney is hot and cold, but was kicking more goals than Watts. Serious concern about his dedication and effort though.

Ok thanks for that, I wasn't aware of the sustained performance. Maybe it is time for a few changes then.Otiman wrote:Voss has been in our best players since he was dropped to the VFL.kalsaint wrote:In how many games have Voss, Brooks and Watts been close to BOG?

Certainly I am not against change when the edge is gone. I just wish this would happen on game day when the game plan is not sustainable.
