Will we look at Brandan Parfitt?

Post: # 2078720Post D.B.Cooper »

We seem to get linked to every experienced out of favour or delisted midfielder.

26 YO, about 130 games.
Great tackler, decent pace.
What is the reason he was delisted?

What level do you rate him?
I'd say similar to Dow.
Would you persevere with Paton & Hotton or cut one and bring Parfitt in?

I don't think we want another delisted back up midfielder so it's a no from me.
The only bonus is he costs nothing in trade value and would be on minimum wage.

That's a BIG bonus.

He was one of Gresham's mates before they were both drafted. Pity we don't still have Gresh... although I think he'll fit in quickly with the indigenous boys and girls at St Kilda.

They'll probably look at him and move on.

The new Sandy coach might want him if he doesn't get picked up by an AFL club.

Will we pick up a player in the SSP window :?:

I hope we do. Good depth player. Solid preseason could see him crack our bench, if he just stays the same he is a good option for us to have if we get midfield injuries like we did this year.

Give him a 1 year performance based contract with a trigger for a more lucrative 2nd year.

Scollop, separate from the cost factor, doesn't this contradict your repeated contentions about Macrae hindering St Kilda's squad of young mids - don't you think that recruiting Parfitt might likewise make it harder for someone like Hugo Garcia and others to play midfield next year?

I'm also surprised that you appear to lament the departure of Jade Gresham, who has done nothing worthy of note since crossing over to Essendon this year. I read somewhere recently that Brad Scott indicated the Bombers are on the lookout for a gun small forward, which suggests Gresh hasn't worked out.

I think he's excess to needs.

We need some mid age depth but we've already got Dow, Jones. Thats enough. We need to keep grooming potential midfielders aswell otherwise you end up with too many aged list cloggers.

At 26 he potentially has 4+ years left if he can play to the level.

Perhaps getting delisted will be the kick up the bum he needs?

Our mids by age
Macrae 30
Jones 29
Steele 28
(Parfitt 26)
Clark 25
Dow 24
Windy 21

Players who can play mid by age (but might play another position)
Sinclair 29
Stocker 24
Henry 23
NWM 21
Owens 21
Pou 19

Developing fringe 22 by age
Byrnes 23
Garcia 19

All the above to say he slots in nicely from a depth chart and age perspective.

Paton or Hotton need to be delisted

Good questions Sanctorum. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify.

I think Parfitt comes into the squad to give us depth and there'll be no expectations from Brandan that he's automatically a walk up start in the seniors. He's used to that so it means he'll earn his spot.

On the other hand, I think if we recruit Mcrae, it means that the head coach believes he's required to play seniors. He's probably given Macrae assurances that he'll be playing seniors...otherwise...why would he leave the Bulldogs to come and play VFL for Sandringham?

Essendon are not that good. I think Gresh was a victim of their lack of consistency. Brad Scott (just like many coaches looking to shift blame) thinks it's his players fault that Essendon missed finals.

I said "it's a pity" because obviously Brandan would have been happier having a good mate like Gresh still playing for the Saints.

I think Gresh would have been handy for us at the start of 2024 when we had both Dow and Clark unavailable due to injury. I'm not saying he's a gun small forward or a clearance specialist, but he has shown he can perform for brief periods in the middle.

Having said that, I don't think Gresh was worth the money that Essendon paid.

Parfit is dirt.

Incredibly poor defensively and doesn’t work hard enough.

Who gets more tackles per game? The link below is for 2023. Don't look at current season... that's even more embarrassing for you

lol please again with your meaningless stats. He’s been delisted due to his poor defending. He wasn’t getting games due to being poor defensively.

But hey I’m sure wrapping his arms around a motionless player a couple of times a week is good.

CURLY not only gets inside info within the 4 walls at St Kilda, but now he's got someone on the inside at Geelong as well
