Re: Ivan Soldo nominates St Kilda
At 28yo, he’d effectively replace Campbell on the list
I do tend to agree with Dud in that I don’t really u/s why he’d want to come to us to still be second fiddle… I guess he wants to live in Melbourne?
If he comes cheap I guess it’s like for like

There's another 8 clubs in Melbourne, why specify one? Unless he's been given promises...

Re: Ivan Soldo nominates St Kilda
A competent back up strong ruckman its essential. He'll come cheap. Campbell had one year left in him at the most. Soldo has a few years left in him and it will allow us time to develop a younger ruckman. Hopefully Heath is that guy, but there's still a question mark over him.
I'm scratching my head over the some of the hand wringing about bringing Soldo in.
We had a crack at Xerri, we had a crack at Draper, and we had a crack at De Koning. We offered all big money and they stayed at their respective clubs.
Right now, there's not much out there, and if Marshall gets a long term injury, I'd rather have Soldo playing ruck than Owens, Caminiti, or Heath

Heard this morning, potentially Tom Campbell getting to Melbourne as a back-up to the giant garden gnome Max Gawncwrcyn wrote: ↑Wed 25 Sep 2024 2:25pm A competent back up strong ruckman its essential. They're talking about us giving up a future 2nd rounder for him. No chance.

For a 28yo ruck outside there to 22 that’s played 65 games!!!Otiman wrote: ↑Wed 25 Sep 2024 4:12pm They're talking about us giving up a future 2nd rounder for him. No chance.

Hugo will be a great player for us. (As will B.M's other man, Wilson. ) I rate those blokes as being as close as one could get to certainties. The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2024 10:20pmYou're right in getting excited about the youngsters you mentioned. however, you forgot Garcia.
However, their (potential) maximum upsides are no where near those of Keeler, Owens, Collard and King. The first three in particular, can do freakish stuff that few players, no matter how good, can do.
What I mean is, think maybe of GAblett Snr vs Dunstall. Both all-time champion full forwards. But, Dunstall didn't/couldn't do the freakish stuff that GAblett could do. The flip side... I know who I'd rate as having been the more reliable/more consistent player.
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?

Re: Ivan Soldo nominates St Kilda
I worry about trading out of the draft at all
This is a fkn deep draft - a kid from SA I really rate (Charlie Nicholls) and would take him as a late second round is rated 52
Hugo Garcia was pick 50 in a weaker draft
I’m fine with getting Macrae but struggling to come to terms with parting for pick 43
If they trade out of the first or second round I’ll be filthy!!!!

Those picks should be untouchable.
I don't even think we should trade future first or second rounders this year.

I'm not fine with bringing in Mcrae, but if we get him for a third or fourth round pick that's bearableB.M wrote: ↑Wed 25 Sep 2024 11:12pm I worry about trading out of the draft at all

We brought in Paddy Dow the year before and if Paddy has a good preseason and if Clark is fit and healthy, I don't think Mcrae adds value to the team on field.
We have Clark under contract until 2025. Dow was signed for 3 years, so potentially we could be stuck with Dow and Mcrae in 2026 and lose Hunter Clark.
