Essendon captain Zach Merrett is going nowhere as St Kilda made clear it was not attempting to poach the Dons skipper this year.

The Saints went as far as releasing a statement on Monday to clarify their stance on Merrett.

The club said there had been no “formal discussion” on attempting to trade for Merrett.

While St Kilda might have had some interest in approaching Merrett, those close to the Dons skipper made it clear on Monday that he never considered leaving the club.

A St Kilda spokesman said on Monday: “We have not approached his management with a contract offer for Zach to join St Kilda.”

“There has also not been any formal discussion of this topic with Zach or his management.

“We will not be making any further comment on this matter.”

There’s a wrestling ‘reporter’ (WWE etc) called Dave Meltzer who would send out a newsletter with inside goss, editorials, reviews back in the day. It wasn’t very objective and tended to favor those that spilled beans to him.

After a while, the more professional ppl in the industry that were fed up with lies, mistruths etc then started orchestrating people to feedback shocking scandals injury reports etc that were completely fake knowing that Dave would publish them and it completely destroyed his credibility. He’s still around but most consider him a joke.

Reading between the lines (and) from (very) afar, I get the sneaking impression that young Harley would be quite amenable to coming back to the side of the continent where all the action is.

Also, if one insists on throwing around huge money, I would previouisly have used JH-F would be purely as a hypothetical example of the required calibre of player we'd want in return.

We should just use a tactic that worked well for us way back in the day.

We were keen on a young defender, but he was undecided.

So (probably) Bevo' took him to watch a young bloke playing. This bloke was pretty damn good. It was pointed out to the prospective defender that since the bloke they were both watching was zoned to St Kilda, the young defender would have to play against him up to several times a year... unless he too came to St Kilda.

The young defender chose St Kilda.
