Correct me if I am wrong but does taking a FA dilute your compo if you lose a FA?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 9:54am Tomlinson now linked as an unrestricted free agent by various sources.
If so I imagine we only look at him if we get band 2 compo, dropping from 9 to 20ish is a bit steep but maybe 20ish to 25ish is an ok price? I probably still wouldn't buy if the club sees value they might

I have no clue how that process works tbh. His salary would be peanuts so shouldn’t have to much of an impact on battle compo I would assume.St Dave wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 1:33pmCorrect me if I am wrong but does taking a FA dilute your compo if you lose a FA?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 9:54am Tomlinson now linked as an unrestricted free agent by various sources.

The last thing I heard is that it does, so I would be hoping we don't bring in any free agents if it jeopardises the possible Band 1 pickBrunswicksainter wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 2:15pmI have no clue how that process works tbh. Re: The Silly Season
Riley Garcia (WB) was linked on SEN today. Is out of contract and will cost nothing. Funnily enough pushed macrae out of the side this year and is a decent prospect albeit as a depth option. Also will mean our midfield has the only two players ever with the surname Garcia.

Riley 'Garthia' might want to go home to WA. He's a pretty good footballer.

Re: The Silly Season
Riley is a smallish Garcia.
Hugo = good size.
Saw his rundown of Holmes again recently. Hugo will boss McCrea in terms of time on the ground in season2025, surely.
And Collard will fill our small player quota.

Re: The Silly Season
It makes logical sense to replace Battle and Crouch but ONLY if you are of the view that we should try and challenge in 2025. AND...if you honestly believe we have a squad good enough for a spot in the finals, why not go all the way and try and win the bloody thing?
Why go half arsed with a 30 year old (Mcrae) and a 31 year old (Tomlinson) when you can go all the way and bring in another potential match winning 30 year old. No... not Dusty (he's 33 ).
I'm talking about Jake Stringer. Seriously...if this club wants to get fair dinkum, then give it a red hot crack in 2025. You can't be half pregnant. We've heard reports of St Kilda offering godfather deals to Weitering and Merrett and others. So...if Stringer is available, why aren't we offering him what he wants?
At the risk of leaving guys like Caminiti, Shoenmaker, Hastie, or Garcia behind in their development or maybe we risk losing one of them or some of them to other teams if they're not getting opportunities...is it worth aiming high?
It'll be weird if we end up getting Tomlinson and Mcrae and we go on to finish 7th or 8th next year and get knocked out again in week 1. What was the point?
Can Tomlinson and Mcrae make a difference on their own? Do we have enough class on the list to get it done if we add these 2 guys?
If I was the President and one of the board of directors, I'd be telling SOS and Gubby and Lyon...you either bring in 30 year olds and finish 5th or better...or don't do it at all

Forget R Garcia.
He’s too young and it contradicts Scollop’s unhinged rants.

Re: The Silly Season
How many sane people do you know that follow St Kilda?
Most people accept that we are serious about Mcrae.
We’re looking at a guy like Tomlinson to replace Battle (and now Sam Frost as well apparently*) so why not Stringer?

Still doesn't explain the bizarre rant about RTB potentially sabotaging the club and to stop bringing in 30YO's, when he hasn't done so as yet.Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 20 Sep 2024 3:08amHow many sane people do you know that follow St Kilda?

And surely you are taking the piss with thoughts on Jake "loose cannon" Stringer.
No to McRae, Tomlinson and anyone who is not part of the future for mine.
If we want McRae I'm on board as long as he costs us sweet FA in draft capital.
No more Brad Hill Dan Hannebery deals please.
Thank f*** that South Australian ex Macquarie failure, half wit has departed the club, he was a disaster.

Re: The Silly Season
Seb Ross wouldn’t be a bad pick up for any club
Seasoned pro
Handy depth player
But just to put it in perspective
Jack MaCrae is 1 year younger
Seb Ross made the AA squad of 40 in 2017
Macrae made the AA team in 2019, 2020, 2021
Seb was a B+ mid
Macrae was A Grade
If we get 50-60 games out of MaCrae at 25ppg it will be a win

Re: The Silly Season
Yeah I am curious if we offered Seb a base level deal at all or if we just let him go.
He wouldn't be useless to the club so I could see them offering him a year or two at a very low wage and giving him no guarantee of playing time, but then I can also see why Seb might not want to take that and instead shop himself around.
And I wonder if a similar deal might have been put to Membrey.

If we give up a decent pick I’ll spew like Terry Wallace.
WB have a declining club great and past A grade AA who has 3 years to run on a sizable contract.
It appears he is now on the fringe and certainly not part of their starting midfield.
This is a salary dump and we should give nothing if we are taking him off their hands.
This is WB version of the Billings trade, albeit Macrae is worth a lot more than Billings.
Don’t make JM the next Dan Hannebery, give them NOTHING!
