Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
I don’t get the issue and am even more miffed by the connection to violence.
Ginnivan mouthed off to throw Port of their game
Port won and Hinkley stuck it to the man
And there’s a little personality and rivalry in the game that’s been missing from AFL since the early 2000s.
It’s just words. Harmless teasing (not racism or triggering things). IMO generally speaking, people need to get over it and stop acting like a bit of teasing means they’ve lost the ability to control their actions

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
“Woke” was having a recognition of racial and other discrimination
The meaning has been amended by the right wing of politics to demean those who conduct themselves with empathy for their fellow citizens
Past that, the old story is that the winners can laugh and the losers can please themselves
And that for every action there is a reaction
The former Collingwood player baited the Port Adelaide FC
That Sicily supports his teammates regardless of if they are right or wrong is also noted
Only at Hawthorn, hey?

Think Ginni may be in trouble when the new social media laws come in. What’s the age limit? Sixteen?

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
Be interested in how the hawk cheerleaders conduct themselves this week. They surely see the traps of hippocracy, poor loser syndrome and obvious bias.
Koch won't cope too much nonsense either.
AFL has set an interesting precedent with the please explain.
Hardwick might need to curb his tone next year. Clarkson will need a minder. Malthouse will be glad he operated in a different era.

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
SM Mitchell likes his sides new found way of celebrating
He says “this generation communicates differently “
Guess what Sam????
You don’t get your cake and to eat it too
Ken’s a bogan - all of Port are….but Hawthorne started this
Now their media fan club led by Hodge, Lewis (worst commentator in the game) and Brereton (whose peroxide has seeped into his brain) are having a whinge !! Boo friggen hoo
Poor Sam ….lacked his usual smug smirk in the last presser
Got what they deserved

Yes Sicily inflamed the situation by mouthing off himself.

Ken copped 20k for saying flight for you
Sicily got zero for continuing the situation
Clarkson got nothing for a homophonic slur
Collard got the rest of the season similar
You couldn’t make this s*** up

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
My take is that Hinkley had a lighthearted jibe at Ginivan .. something like 'looks like you're not flying to Sydney after all' .. it really didn't seem abusive ..
And to Ginivan's credit, he seemed quite OK with Hinkley's jibe 'fair play Kenny, ya got me this time' ..
But then Sicily .. who was already angry and frustrated .. began abusing Hinkley ... and he kept at it .. even during the guard of honor ..
And Sam Mitchel, at his press conference was most aggressive toward Hinkley and highly supportive of Sicily ..
Then the "hawthorn mafia' in the media just continued on with it .. effectively using the power of media to completely change the narrative and hide the truth.
Goodness only knows why the AFL fined Hinkley .. can only imagine they take their lead from Channel 7 and Foxtel.
Sicily & Mitchel were out of order, Ginivan was happy to take his fair wack.

Ridiculous that Sicily got off scott free. He appeared to be much more aggressive than Hinkley.

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
Hinkley is a flog, you're the coach, and the games over.
The whole Ginivan social media comment was blown waaaaay out of proportion by media looking for some controversy to create and he's an easy target.
It's a knock-out final, as if a team needs/gets more motivation!

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
He’s human and he let his emotions get the better of him. He’s not a flog.
It was a situation where you have a coach who is usually coaching from the bench (so he’s already out on the ground) and both teams converged, which usually doesn’t happen. They all went to line up and honour Breust.
Hinkley couldn’t wait to get something off his chest. He wanted to stick it up the little brat Hokhead and it was an opportunity to do it in front of all his Hokhead team mates.
I think the AFL had to impose a fine to send a message to all officials that they need to be careful of their words and actions immediately post match. They need to respect opposition players. Maybe they should look at also fining players who disrespect their opponents after the final siren. That has the potential to turn ugly doesn’t it?
Maybe they could retrospectively fine a scumbag like Matthew Scarlet

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
What about Mitchell’s crybaby antics afterwards. Should be called Sookball, not Hokball. This gross hypocrisy coming from the man who mocked Essendon with injector gestures a few years back.
What a complete social media storm this became. Bit of harmless banter by Hinkley and Sicily - still kicking himself over not kicking the goal that would have put Hawks into the prelim - blows up in ugly fashion.
$20,000 fine for Hinkley. Where’s the penalty for the Hawthorn captain and coach?

Re: Ken Hinkley is the boss
This is Hawthorn's logic/reaction which has been swallowed whole by the AFL Executive, dominated by lawyers: Sicily was protecting a young emotionally vulnerable footballer, one on way over the median income and accomplished media performer, a shy retiring soul not seeking attention and clicks, a solid professional, who just happens to choreograph his own stunts and has sucked in several team mates to pretend they are in the NFL and actually have won trophies. This innocent child goes to races on the eve of a grand final. So vulnerable he can't take a joke without an emotional breakdown requiring a minder to step in to save him.
The abuse directed towards the opposition coach by the Hawthorn captain at a ceremony marking a 300 game achievement is ok. Two wrongs, never heard of that axiom, wave captain's behaviour through. A coach giving back banter in kind from poor petal however is unacceptable and worth a $20k fine, about 10x the penalty for a solid hit to the solar plexus.
Its all nuts, there are no innocents: Hawthorn mouth off, coach responds as sides are forced together, Hawthorn alumni go spare, thin skins, Sicily does what his bad tempered nature urges him to - no restraint, no class. AFL levies a fine to one of the three parties because it can, no explanation of how it sets an appropriate figure, determining the coach has to cop whatever in stoic cheek turning mode. (You need to maintain the respect bestowed on your position by letting a young punk disrespect you.) Lawyers.

Don't forget Hawthorn's in credit over the complete balls up by the AFL in the Racism claims they jumped on the were forced to back pedal on - talk first investigate second strategy.bigcarl wrote: ↑Tue 17 Sep 2024 11:05am What about Mitchell’s crybaby antics afterwards. It was premeditated, not a 'heat of the moment' blowup, he calmly walked onto the field and located a specific player so he could mock him (all over a social media comment mind you), then continued to carry on after the fact. Rubbing it in the oppositions face once the game is over is the floggiest of flog behaviour, made even worse by the fact he's a coach.
