Re: Jack McCrae
Not sure he's what we need. Slow, old. Is/was a very good footballer. Maybe a replacement for Crouch? We need to get some run and power through there, but we need to win the ball as well. Depending on what we have to give up and use in our salary cap, it could be worth a look.

Re: Jack McCrae
It's a pass from me.
We should focus on building our midfield through the various drafts and not clog the list with midfields on the wrong side of 30.

Re: Jack McCrae
It’s a salary dump for them, give us something with him to take him off their hands.
We don’t need him and he is not going to make us infinitely better.
Give us McRae and #32 for our #35.
Or pay half his wage and a future 4th.
They obviously want him out as he is not in their best team and has a 3 year contract to run.
Give them nothing, don’t make him the next Hannebery.

Re: Jack McCrae
I do agree we need youth in the draft 100%, but also very weary of losing too many old heads, we dont want to suffer the fate of the Roos. If Crouch goes, Ross is gone, we lose on/off field mentoring.

Re: Jack McCrae
We are not losing on field leadership. Both Crouch and Sebby hardly got on the park in the last 8 rounds and we played our best footy... didn't we?
Expecting new recruits in senior players to do the job of an assistant coach or development coach seems odd. They would firstly be prioritising their own preparation and training and recovery before devoting any time to other players.
How did recruiting Hannas for his leadership turn out?
We have enough senior players. Steele, Wilkie, Hill, Marshall, Mason Wood, etc. Hunter Clark and Paddy Dow have been in the system for several years. We have emerging leaders and ...most importantly, we have coaches.
Banger and BJ Goddard are full time mentors and full time coaches who know what it takes to play midfield.
Also...who says we're 'losing' Crouch? He will probably stay on the playing list in 2025 and will be handy as a mentor

Re: Jack McCrae
It’s a yes for me if we don’t give up much draft collateral.
If we can also draft in the left footed Xavier Lindsay then we will be looking a pretty good team.
Add in Brayshaw as a FA for ‘26 and we’re cooking.

Re: Jack McCrae
Id take him on as we do need some replacement for Ross, Crouch whilst we build our midfield. He certainly would help us at clearances.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2024 6:53pm It’s a salary dump for them, give us something with him to take him off their hands.

But i agree, its a salary dump for WB, they need to do the giving here...

Re: Jack McCrae
I don’t like Jack McCrae as a player but having just had a think about this, don’t we hold all the power if he requests a trade to us? He’s contracted for 3 years on huge money, the dogs have just resigned English and Naughton on +1 million a year and now have Bont, Richards and Darcy all out of contract next year. One will absolutely need to walk if the dogs keep mcCrae this year.
For $950k a year over 3 years we should absolutely be demanding their second round pick or even a late first for taking on his contract (similar to the Bowes deal for geelong). This is the only way this deal is acceptably for us, given we also have a lot of good young talent coming out of contract over the next 2 years that will create cap pressure.

Re: Jack McCrae
Why clog up the list with a player that’s going to cost you triple (or quadruple) the money of a young draftee or rookie?Brunswicksainter wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2024 10:29pm I don’t like Jack McCrae as a player but having just had a think about this, don’t we hold all the power if he requests a trade to us? Here’s the really funny… and tragic thing for our list management. We want to bring in a ready made player because we don’t trust that our recruiters are going to find a kid that is worthwhile picking up late in the draft…and yet people are arguing that the advantage of taking McCrae off the Bulldogs hands is going to mean we’re gifted a 2nd round draft pick
The focus of this football club is all wrong. We have a decent draft hand this year. Focus on bringing in good young talent

Re: Jack McCrae
1/ we have to pay 95% of the cap - we have loads of space
2/ he is not a list clogger - he is a triple AA - stuck behind 3 elite mids (Bont, Treloar, Libba) they have busted their cap
He’s 31yo - same as Hill - we just signed him up for 3yrs

This is it IMO. You lose Seb and Crouch maybe, bring him in at low cost and play him when it suits us. You could still draft 3-4 mids and he’s only a decent player for them to learn off of.

Re: Jack McCrae
Better than Seb Ross but he's too old. Might be ok for one year, but not after that.

Re: Jack McCrae
If we draft 3 mids
Let’s say Murphy Reid, Sam Lalor and Christian Moraes
Do you think they’ll be ready to go as inside mids next year?
They will need time

Re: Jack McCrae
McRae played 3 games in the VFL this season
43, 46 and 37 possessions
He’s a triple AA with ball winning ability
He’s also a big body at 191cm

Re: Jack McCrae
Quite liked McCrae a few years ago, he was always a reliable contributor in my SuperCoach team.
But unfortunately his stats dropped off, think he had a few niggle injuries, and he's struggled to rediscover his previous form and consistency,
Fact is, he's been in-and-out of the Doggies team, and has been sub a few times.
Much as I like him, can't see the point of paying him the big bucks if he's only a fringe/depth player. Rather than have McCrae as an interchange or sub, I'd much rather a Hastie or Byrnes type, who have youth and upside.

Re: Jack McCrae
Don't tell us how he played against us. That's silly. Tell us how he's played against the best sides.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!
