Membrey on the outs!!??
Anyone got the scoop?
The FB groups are running wild with this.
Speculation that he hasn’t been offered a new contract or has a year on the table and is shopping around for a better deal.
Some going as far as saying that RTB doesn’t rate him (which I find hard to believe) and that North have put 3 years down in front of him.
I suspect with King, Coops and Caminati ready to go with Marshall able to spend time forward… + Owens and arguably Keeler ready to get a look, he would seem surplus to requirements.
Still, a pay cut and he leads the way at Sandy for patches is appealing to me too.
Anyone know any better

Ross only rates himself
Sad...but not surprising
Look at how Ball, Hudghton, X Clark and Goose Maguire were treated.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
Which one of those 4 was treated badly by Ross? Ball the only contentious one. He was offered a 3 year contract worth over a $1mill and refused it. Max, by his own admission went a year too long and injuries got him.
X and goose to me a no brainer. Both completely cooked by their injuries and neither had any impact at their new clubs.
Personally I would have given Members one more year. If North are throwing 3 years at him, good luck to him. Complete madness but he would be crazy not to take that. He was a great servant for us and his last 6-7 games I thought were really good. Would be a shame but I don’t think it’s a case of us treating him poorly

A one year deal is a reasonable approach.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
Membrey looked totally cooked mid year and finished the season very strongly.
If he got 3 and started next year like he did last season, that would all of a sudden be looking a very long contract.
I wouldn’t suggest 3 years is wise, but then again we gave 3 to Hill & Wood which seemed overs at their age.
Many top players play on one year deals over 30.
If North offer him 3 he’d be crazy not to take it and good luck to him if he gets a deal like that.
Ratten used to push him back or he’d go back himself when we were under the pump, I wonder if Ross would consider him as a Battle replacement? Maybe better than Tomlinson.

Wouldn't mind if he stayed, his late season form was good.
If he leaves tho, not the end of the world.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
Always been of the opinion that Membrey and King don't work well together in the forward half. I thought Membrey lost some impact when they started playing Max a few years ago. Tim's form was pretty good in the later part of the season, and could easily go around again. I would like to see Max up the ground and Tim down deep

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
The Melbourne Age this week reported that St Kilda had put a deal to Membrey but that they were happy for him to look around for a better deal elsewhere. In the same article they also mentioned that St Kilda were no longer interested in Dylan Shiel, which will please a lot of supporters...

I would like to see Timmy finish his career as a Saint. But I wish him only the best, if he has to go to another club. What an absolute bargain he was when he was first recruited from Sydney. He’s been a tireless competitor and a very handy forward whilst the club endured some lean years.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
I hope it's correct that he has been offered a one year deal to stay with us. By all means, if another club is offering multiple years on better money then I wouldn't begrudge him for leaving. Tim has probably been told that a forward line of King, Sharman, Caminiti and Owens is the plan and he'd just have a depth/support role.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
I can't believe we can't get Members and Max to work together.
The system we were using up till now clearly wasn't working for King either.
Figure out a new one that suits them both.

Battle was no racehorse.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
We need to get games into the kids, Keeler, Schoenmaker, Hastie, Caminiti, Mclennan and O'Connell. Maybe Cole too if drafted. Membrey is not essential to our climb up the ladder

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
Battle is 193cm and Membery is 188cm Battle at times was to small against some 200cm forwards Membery would really struggle.
Nice idea but I don't think so I know membery plays a lot bigger then he is but in Defence he would really struggle as a KPD

Re: Membrey on the outs!!??
While I agree that we need to get games into the kids, I also believe Membrey is a critical cog of our immediate future.
In a team that is clearly lacking natural leaders - particularly in the front half, Membrey's experience and leadership is critical. Furthermore, his ability overhead means the opposition need to play a key defender on him, therefore when King plays that leaves Sharman and/or Caminiti playing on the third or fourth string defender. That gives those two a better chance to further develop and excel, which they need to do, as despite their improvement, neither have produced more than 19 goals in a season.
Comparatively, Membrey kicked 30 goals this season from just 19 games. His 7th season of kicking 30+.
He is also by far our most accurate shot for goal, kicking 30.9 for the year, and only Jack Higgins and Mitch Owens had more direct score involvements - but both played more games. Not bad after the challenges of 2023.
Across the last six rounds Membrey averaged 15 disposals, 7 marks, and 2.3 goals a game. That's extremely difficult to instantly replace.
Sharman's average over the same period, 12 disposals, 6 marks, and 1.5 goals a game. Caminiti, 9 disposals, 3 marks, 1.2 goals.
I'd be more than happy to see these guys go past Membrey in 2025, and they should, but until then, I think it'd be detrimental to our development if we let Tim Membrey go.
