He made a couple of hundred million?

That is absolutely fabricated bulls***.

He was on the bone of his arse when he took a sizable loan from RB and asked for a $1M bonus for a premiership.

He has been moderately successful in business post his Saint days, but $200M is just made up.

Back it up with some facts.

And you shouldn’t refer Ferocia as a large portion of the $200M. For one they had finance, two they did not get their performance based earn out and received a reduced deferred consideration, also GT was not the major shareholder.

The number I'm told he received from that venture was well under 20% of the reported sell figure. Still a tidy sum but not one that deems one a success or sets you up for inter generational wealth.

He’s probably got a tad more coin than any of us!

I’d go so far as to say - he’s pretty wealthy

Good on him - smart guy - not a knob

I don’t agree with his latest statements about StK

But over the journey have agreed with many of his comments

IMO there are 3 cornerstones of a great coach
Leadership of men
Strategy and tactics
Development of talent

GT was outstanding at 2
So is Ross - just a different 2

Hang on, you said he was worth $200M.
Where did you get that number?

I said he’s a moderately successful businessman, who had been up and down in his business life pre St Kilda coaching (taking role when he was down) and I believe that to be a very accurate and favorable assessment.

I agree he's a smart guy and not a knob.
Judging wealth is relative.

He's done well post Saints, but he's no top end of town player, and the number you quoted is pure bulls***.

Over the years due to his comments, he has lost the trust and faith of players who played under him who loved him at that time and post his departure. (Direct comment from a player coached by GT).

GT makes comments to be controversial IMO, not that he genuinely believes them.

How do you build a club culture when you trade out senior players at the end of their careers?
How did trading Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis etc... work out for Hawthorn?

I don't rate GT at all, correctly or incorrectly, I believe a professional coach in 2004 & 2005 would have built a legacy.
The 2004 list was the best that has ever been assembled at the Saints and were beautifully balanced with established senior AA stars, champion veterans, young AA guns and future young champions on the rise.

There was a place for GT at the club, but it wasn't as a tactical coach or heading up training services.
The whole mana manager story is also over hyped IMO.

So too is the myth GT got us to two prelims with a bunch of 19/20 YO as our core

The situation certainly wasn't helped by an administration that was out of control and a president doing drugs in front of key corporate sponsors and carrying on like a party boy.

Add his influence in exiting Tasmania costing us millions and a generation of Tasmania supporters one of the most reckless and stupid decisions ever made in modern AFL times and to top it off he sues the club for unpaid leave and makes out he bleeds red white and black as he smashes the club in the media to stay relevant.

$200M

For the 3rd time, where did you get that number?

Because he has you covered, I would not assume there are multiple posters on this site he does not have covered.

GT is no knob, nor is he stupid.
But he’s no top ender, far from it.

For the 4th time, don’t ignore it this time, where does your $200M come from?

Actually I’m not guessing, I’m not a halfwit that would pluck a figure like $200M and write it on the internet. At least you now confirm you plucked the number from your arse.

I have reasonable knowledge of some of his business interests through multiple shared associates.

Its a lot more in the 20-40 range than $200M.
As I have written he’ no knob or stupid and is a moderately successful businessman.

Whether he’s more successful in business than me is you again speculating without any knowledge at all. And you’ve already proven to make a fool of yourself when you speculate Mr $200M.

I find you knowledgeable on young players talent, so perhaps stick to your wheelhouse, as when you talk business you sound like a School Teacher, not that there is anything wrong with that.

HTF would you know someone’s personal wealth?

You also know FA about his business ventures

I think he sold his start up company for $115 million about 2-3 years ago I was hoping he would pay the saints dept of $2 million at the time as he was not happy we were still in dept $2 million dept. But I suppose we need to get out of Dept ourselves and learn to be profitable

Again you give opinion as fact.

I gave a broad range based on knowledge of his business ventures through shared associates.

I didn’t pluck a figure out of my arse and write it as fact like you did Mr $200M man 😂

I reiterate, GT is no fool and has been moderately successful in business post his time at the Saints.

$200M 😂

That is correct, however:
- The company had debt through funding capital
- GT was nowhere near the major shareholder
- The company got nowhere near that figure as they didn’t get the earn out or part of the deferred consideration it total
- By the time you pay CGT (depending on your structure) a minor shareholder like GT probably gets around $20 pre tax and depending on structure and discount allowances pays between 24.5%~40% tax.

$115M does not equal $115 in a minor shareholders pocket.

In any case, he is a very wealthy man by most people's standards.

He's never been shy expressing his opinions which is why he's got so many people offside over the years. He's certainly has the "I know what's best" mentality and is sure he's right on football matters

He made mistakes in his time at St Kilda, but I get the impression he'd be reluctant to admit them (eg dumping the Tasmanian deal)

He's no idiot, but his bullish style has meant relationships fractured during his time at St Kilda and maybe he should consider his own culpability out of those breakdowns.

It just seems to me he always thinks he could do a better job than those in charge, whoever they may be

Guarantee 🤭   You work at his ban(k) now to be privy to this confidential information?

I think you should advise him to not leave a 7figure amount lolling around in ‘his’ bank account - not a way to accumulate wealth these days.

Wealthy is relative. Are we talking about:
$1,000,000 or $9,999,999 as the 7 figures in his bank account?

To me $1,000,000 is ‘comfortable’, not wealthy. I’d be happy to have $9,999,999 to live out the rest of my time - I’d consider myself wealthy on that amount. I think I’d write off the Saints debt !!

Oh loris, you are too clever.

Poor BM thinks that:

1. His opinion is fact, he guarantees it!
2. Wealthy people have 7 figure bank accounts (hasn't been following cash rates since covid)
3. Seven figure accounts = success
4. Wealthy in his eyes equates to wealthy in "anyone's eyes"

BM at least has toned down his wealth assessment "SLIGHTLY" from $200M to seven figures
FWIW, I'd call the net wealth of $200M successful.

Maybe a ban account is a new trading platform that us oldies don't understand?

Ha, ha. Any self respecting accountant or financial advisor will inform you if you retire with a $1,000,000 you should have a ‘comfortable’ retirement (depending on the life style you are accustomed to - Jamie Packer wouldn’t be able to survive on $1m - whereas I can). Hence one is ‘comfortable’, not wealthy.
However a homeless woman, on a pension, with minimal superannuation (as it wasn’t available to her through most of her possible employment years) living out of her car would think $1m would signify exceptional wealth. Yep wealth sure is relative.

As old as I am D.B.C, I think I know what a ‘ban’ account is.
Last year, I realized I had one cheque left in a cheque book I hadn’t used in years. So I paid an account with my last cheque I had. To my surprise 😮 (an no doubt the receiver of my cheque), it bounced!!!

Lo & behold I hadn’t kept up with the times. I thought like days gone bye, it would take days for the cheque to be presented to my bank for debiting from my account, and I would have time to transfer money from my superfunds’ cash management account, to my personal account.

Nah, not these days. I gave the cheque to the tradie who had done the work at my home. He went to the bank that afternoon, and wiz bang technology identified immediately I didn’t have money in my account to cover the cheque. So the cheque bounced😱. It was so embarrassing.
So that’s what I guess is a ‘ban’ account these days??
Not like the good old days, when cheques, could be ‘presented again’ I think up to three times. I know that was allowed in the 1960’s, as my first job was in a bank. Horror of all horrors it was too for a non-numerate like me!!

The moral of this story D.B.C - ditch your old cheque books, they don’t give you the breathing space of the good/bad (another relative thingy) old days.

Wealthy is relative.

My mum still had the old physical bank book when she passed away in 2020, I used to take her down to the branch and they'd update it for her.

One day we went into the branch and the young guy assisting looked at the book and asked "what do I do with this"?

Seems GT was given a blank cheque by Butterss as enough rope to hang himself with and for all his smarts and wealth he did.
GT does not look well or happy. Rich? sure.

Wealthy in anyone’s eyes for a ‘moderately successful businessman’

Bless her, I too was very attached to my old savings bank pass book.
The bank was always trying to get it off me - this was around the time ATM’s were introduced. I wanted the security (I think it was more familiarity) of the pass book & going into a bank, queuing up to withdraw money. Each time I’d go into the branch where I had my account, they would tell me, it’s quicker etc to use the ATM and said I may as well cancel the actual passbook. Not in your sweet Nellie was I going to give up my bank pass book ( it was as dear to me as my passport) - I’d had one since primary school.
So I used to go to other branches of my bank to withdraw cash. Until I’d run out of pages for anymore transactions. I had to go back to the branch where my account was. Asked for a new pass book, they said no. Gave me a debit card instead to use - so I was frog-marched into accepting technology.
Now the ATM’s are diminishing (along with bank branches) as they don’t want us to use cash. That reminds me I must get to an ATM this afternoon. I’m off to a gardening festival tomorrow & I need cash to buy plants. Those little hobby plant enthusiasts that sell at the markets prefer cash. They aren’t the type to leave 7 figure sums in their bank accounts - they are too clued up to do that😉

I empathize with you dear mum and the attachment she had to her bank book.
