Goal ump- bottle- accused person charged

Post: # 2076178Post WellardSaint »

23 y.o. Northcote 'man'
Recklessly causing injury
Discharging missile
Unlawful assault

Will appear at Mag Court Nov 1

Twitter rumours say a Blues fan chucked bottle towards a Saints fan but missed.
It came from direction of Bluescum Cheer Squad, someone in there said it wasn't a cheer squad member.
Somebody rang ABC Radio, spoke to Raf Epstein, said they were spokesperson for CS, said the CS 'self-reported' the incident to the Plod, the 💩 exited Stage Left before the cops arrived.

I searched EFAS (court database) for Nov 1st but unsure of what category- Hearing, Committal, etc.

There's a bunch of names but no way to ID the alleged perp.
I could run each male's name thru Facebook, but I can't be bothered as there's too many and he might be set to 'private' anyway. So no point trying

Wouldn’t be a committal as he’s not remanded.

Would be a mention.

Rumour has it - the thrower was Curly ;)

Remanded doesn’t make it a committal. Certain scheduled offences do. This definitely wouldn’t be a committal. Would be summonsed to a mention date. Most likely the major charge will be dropped as under the Crimes Act it’s not really considered an injury.

BUT, I’m assuming a very lengthy ban plus an embarrassing day at court will be punishment enough.

The person has been banned for life from AFL & AFLW.

Waiting on court appearance on Nov 1.

Hmmm. I'm not sure it's right to say it's not an injury but you may be right, It forced him from the field. Was there blood from the back of the head? If it was Reckless Cause Serious Injury then it'd probably be dropped as a matter of course. I reckon they may dangle dropping Reckless Cause Injury in front of him to get a plea.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Rumours floated around after this that it was a Saints fan throwing sms bottle at a cheer squad member and missing.

I’ve been dreading the headline but we may be on the clear

It wouldn’t be “serious injury” we are talking about life altering injuries here. Like the inability to move freely etc. that’s deemed “serious”.

So you murder someone but get out in 25 years (and can then go to the footy) but this d**khead can never go to the footy again for that incident? Come on. That Collingwood guy that knocked over the umpire in that reserves game years ago only got 10 years.

Got his correct penalty IMO.

For me its more of a deterrent for other people who think it ok to harass or injure games officials in sport at any level.

And as for John Bourke (wasn’t it?) he’d get life and criminal charges if that incident happened now, and rightly so.

It might turn out to be a positive outcome, he may get a Major League Baseball call up, as he has a bullet arm and deadly accuracy.

What’s actually stopping him from going to the footy again?

Facial Rec - Ban on purchasing tickets - Morals - Ethics

Doubt anyone at the gate is doing Facial Rec
Get a mate to buy the tickets
Morals - Ethics - Mehhh - he launched a bottle

So cruel and heartless from the AFL.
Imagine never being able to watch a game of AFLW live again .

I am one of those morons that had their drivers license cancelled, and kept driving. (Young and stupid, a long time ago)
I got caught. Not because I was doing something silly, just because police checked number plates randomly while we were sitting at traffic lights, and my car got flagged as being owned by someone without a license. Busted.
That was about 18 years ago now. Technology has got a lot better.

The AFL has cameras at every entrance and around the ground with face and body recognition software.
They will also have secret police watching and reporting his every move when he leaves his home.

Other than that it all a bluff.

The technology is available but doubt it’s being used, for now.

He could get someone to buy him a ticket which could potentially cause a problem for that person if they were caught or he could buy tickets at the box using cash.

It would be difficult to enforce.

Naming seems in order.
