Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
At the end of 2025, should Ross become
Director of Coaching
and hand over the reins to Harves...or Boris?
I would say Boris, as he's been with us since Sept 2021.
(I thought he'd joined much earlier)
Boris could be the logical choice, but Harves has been coaching at various clubs since 2009.
Was our stand in for a short time late in 2011 after Rossy chased the $$ then left when the dwarf (politically incorrect ) came in for his epic brilliant stint.
Was caretaker at Pies when FIGJAM quit, won 2, lost 7.
Harves as coach could be a great attraction for membership but a lot reckon his shy demeanour is a negative. (Pressers etc)
If he can drive the players to great heights, who cares if he can't deliver champagne comedy after a game.

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
Lyon is an old man.
Let him be the mentor, like Odin in the Thor movies.
Still earn a great salary, still control the narrative in a lot of ways, but without the heavy workload.
Move over and let a younger coach have a crack.
During the last pre-season, he sat around the club and watched Netflix on his phone, while Harves, BJ, Boris etc took training

I like the idea of Lyon moving to director of coaching or even a board position and a succession plan, not sure Harvey is head coach material though.

Old man syndrome didn't hurt Jeans at Hawthorn. In coaching terms Lyon is definitely not an old man.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2024 2:50pm Lyon is an old man.

Australia has a habit of looking at a DOB and deciding your are no longer good as a professional coach.
Knowledge, desire, man management and ability to adapt key important features of a coach not DOB

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
I agree. Age has nothing to do with whether he's the right fit. Ross was employed to set the club up and to create a culture of winners. That's his job for the next 2 years.
He's the head coach and the only person I reckon who should succeed him in the next 3-4 years could be Boris from our current assistants
If we're heading in the right direction I think we extend his contract at the end of next year if he wants to go on or definitely by midway through 2026 (his final year)
What I don't want is Ross to keep earning a salary for the next 10 years if he gives up on the top job. Head coach or nothing.

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
I get your point but that is a terrible example
Developed one son to want the throne really badly when he wasn’t entitled to it and the other, he pushed didn’t want to lead.
Eventually he’s tricked into being cast out by Loki, passes on when the biggest threat ever is unleashed on Asgard and Asgard is decimated shortly thereafter.
He also wasn’t able to protect his wife from an Elf.

No. Ross is the boss and, as I understand it is sharing the load.

You would think Boris would be a logical choice- knows more about success at the highest level than the rest there and is highly regarded. We can't afford to lose him.

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
Two-time Best & Fairest and long-serving leader Seb Ross’ time at St Kilda has come to a close, with the club informing the 31-year-old he will not be offered a contract for the 2025 season.
Thanks for your service

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
Lyon still has 28 more games to pass Eade on the most games coached without a flag.
Mid 2026 sacking would do fine, on the other hand....

If I was framing a market, 2026 would be the year, that is if we are still bottom 8.whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Fri 30 Aug 2024 9:51pm Lyon still has 28 more games to pass Eade on the most games coached without a flag.

Can't wait for his presser after that game, they should get Shane to ask the questions.
Will we pick up a player in the SSP window

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
3rd oldest coach...2 other coaches 1 yr younger, and 3 ½ years younger.
Not exactly 'old' at 57.
Any of you out there 57? Too weak, insipid, confused cognitively to tell other blokes how to work?
I guess Albo needs to step down immediately! He's 3 yrs older!
Probably already dead and his mouth is moving by hand puppetry....sooook ancient.

Re: Ross Lyon to Banger, Succession Plan
I very much doubt Banger Harvey will ever become a head coach, he doesnt have the public persona or media capabilities to manage the role. The head coach needs to be a marketable product and the face of the club and Banger just doesnt have it.

The board will appoint some experts to vet all suitable contenders.
I won't hold my breath waiting for you to get an invite by the board into the interview team
