Not taking the piss at all
Average of 14 ppg
This season and career
4 times 20 possessions this year in 15 games
6x 20poss in his 41 game career at 23yo
He is going to elevate our midfield from ordinary to better
We need elite talent in the midfield- not depth
I’d take him as a DFA - that’s about it.

Re: James Peatling
We have enough mid tier midfielders. We can try and roll through a whole bunch of them panning for gold but I think we just need to go hard in the draft on mids.

Re: James Peatling
I'd be ignoring those stats for average ppg
Round 22 https://aflcoaches.com.au/awards/the-af ... 4/20250123
INTRIGUE GROWS AROUND ‘RED-HOT’ GIANTS MIDFIELDER YET TO SIGN
GWS inside bull James Peatling is still yet to sign on the dotted line for the orange and charcoal beyond 2024, with a belief he is now well and truly on the radar of rival clubs thanks to his purple form patch.
Having picked up 16 coaches votes in the last three rounds – including a perfect 10 last weekend against Brisbane – Peatling looks to be in career-best form playing in his desired midfield role.
But as the Herald Sun’s Josh Barnes explained on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle, this season has been a slow burn for the 23-year-old before getting more game time.
“He’s in red-form, but he’s only just started playing in that GWS midfield; he’s played the last month in the centre square – before that, seven of his 11 games (this year) he was the sub,”Barnes said on Tuesday night.

Re: James Peatling
Redo this analysis pls, he’s started as sub regularly and did not play midfield in first 10-20 games. Most signs actually point to him being an elite top 20 player if you adjust his CBA and TOG percentages in line with established mids. Walk up starter for us next year.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 15 Aug 2024 5:44pm Not taking the piss at all

Re: James Peatling
There’s a reason he starts as Sub
They have better players
He’s a depth mid - nothing more

Kelly, Coniglio, Callaghan, Green fair list.

Kelly, Coniglio, Callaghan, Green- Peatling next in line if one goes down. Imagine any of our mids even approaching selection behind that list

Useful getting more preferential early picks than you can poke a stick at by way of being an AFL Secretariat love child.
They need to win a GF soon because even the best of players eventually age and then they will come back to earth with a thump. Might meet Tassie going up on their way down.

Re: James Peatling
The queue to get into that GWS midfield is longer than the line to get Taylor Swift tickets.
He's been starved of opportunity, but to have pushed his way into that GWS midfield goes in his favor.
I've not seen enough of him to make a definitive judgment on him. I'll leave that to Simon Dalrymple and our team of experts.

Re: James Peatling
We need players as good as GWS in the midfield to be a serious team
Happy to take one of their cast offs but not giving up anything for them
Rather go to the draft to find
Callaghan Coniglio Green or Kelly

Re: James Peatling
He is far from a cast off for them he will be a walk up starter for them this final series a barometer of sorts for their success.
GWS now clearly rate him ahead of Kelly and Cogs, he is getting more mid rotation time and CBA’s
I think you’re grossly underrating him and I’m not sure why? the price will be a first round pick at a minimum.

Re: James Peatling
You’re joking
Surely
If we give up pick 6 for a fringe mid who has largely play 41 average games, I’ll tear up my membership

Re: James Peatling
Enough to know he’s not worth a first rounder
Finn Callaghan is worth a first rounder
Peatling
4th rounder or DFA

Re: James Peatling
JP seems a solid lad, nice run these past few weeks.
But honestly, we MUST go to the draft to build this club. There was a time I was all for the 'moneyball build' we did ok with Hill, Ryder, Howard in 2019's draft / trade. But looking back...I'd preferred keeping our pick 18 for Pickett (104 games/159 goals)
But we have done very well since 2020 holding our best draft picks.
We need elite mids, cannot overstate.
Yes, a ruck would great...but maybe just maybe we one growing.
We need another elite defender, again maybe we already have him.
Our forward line is the worry...we have Membrey who is still acceptable but ageing, King - who knows, who the hell knows...then the rest of lads hanging around the FF.
But an elite midfield makes an okay forward line look the real deal.

King, Membrey, Sharman, Caminiti, Owens, Butler, Higgins.
Forward line is okay. Backline is solid.
Midfield is the worst in the league. Mids are absolutely the priority

He's definitely not worth a first round pick.

Re: James Peatling
Isn't James a carbon copy of Paddy Dow?
Do we need 2 Dows. Or 2 Peatlings.
Keep our draft picks, drink thirstily from that deep talent pool.
Anyway GWS won't let him go, and isn't he a Sydney lad.
Although he might prefer a drier place to live.
