Who can we get

Post: # 2074176Post Bruce G McAbee »

Realistically, who could we get this trade period?

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

I’d be hesitant to give up a late pick

For a mid like Peatling you wouldn't hand over a late pick?

Do we want another fringe midfielder on our list?
Fourth round pick but only if Ross & Crouch retire.
No way there is room for another inside mid with Ross, Crouch, Steele & Clark on the list.
He does have a bit more leg speed than the above four saints.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If we are looking for an inside mid, HS reporting Ben Hobbs may be gettable for a second rounder.
It's HS so probably speculative BS, but you'd take a potential 200 game inside mid in Hobbs for a 2nd rounder, despite the athletic limitations in his game.

MIDFIELD LOGJAM COULD FORCE PRIZED DRAFTEE OUT OF DONS
Essendon hard nut Ben Hobbs could become the first major victim of the Bombers’ midfield logjam and search for more senior opportunities at a new club next season.

Hobbs, who had played only 10 games this year, has attracted interest from clubs as a ready-made onballer who could made an immediate impact in new colours next season.

Rivals are expected to ramp up their inquiries at season’s end in a bid to lure the 20-year-old out of Tullamarine where he has fallen out of the regular senior midfield mix in the back half of this year.

Nope

Because he’s no world beater

Just an ordinary player - at best

Dan Houston is a gun, and possibly returning to Melbourne.

... but I'd be reluctant to part with our 1st round draft pick .. even though Houston is a superstar, he's 27 or 28 and the wrong age bracket for our next dynasty.

Peatlng may be great value for a mid-range pick .. a bit like Jack Steele

Like to know when our dynasty is going to be?

Can’t wait for that!!!

Houston is a gun - but not a superstar he’s not even in the best 3 in his team!

Thank god for that I was worried I might never see a win. Honestly I dont know what Id do if we did win one, probably have a heart attack and die 2 minutes before the final siren. At least I would die happy!

These are guys we could add as depth. I don't think they're world beaters but realistically we could nab them.

Ben Hobbs and Dev Robertson. I prefer Hobbs. Both out of contract.

I think if Crouch retires and if Seb Ross isn't offered a contract, Hobbs could be a good replacement.

The draft is still our best option for quality. We've been successful with Windy, NWM, Owens, Pou and Wilson. I think we have these guys plus other players who are getting to the stage where they'll be playing their best footy over the next 5 years. I think we need a class mid, and I hope we continue to use our frdp on the best young mid available.

Picks 5, 25, 40ish.

Anyone we trade out will be pick swaps at best.

I'm hoping there's no Battle compensation.

Recruiters should be looking at youthy Sydney and Geelong players who can't get a game that we can get after pick 40. Always well educated, taught how to play and Wells/Beatson wouldn't have drafted if they can't kick.

If there's a very talented young player wanting to move for opportunity or to return home (ie Steele, Membrey, Henry, Roberton) then we should pursue them but overall I think our focus needs to be on the draft. We can't take FA's because it would diminish our Battle compo. If anything I'd say we should be trying to trade future picks for picks this year so we can load up and build the young core of our next top 4 side.

Hobbs is an interesting player.

Tough inside mid, a bit of Joel Selwood about him, natural footballer, potential 200 game player but has serious athletic limitations.

Could only consider him if we lose Crouch and Ross to retirement.
Couldn't fit Ross, Crouch, Steele, Clark and Hobbs on the same list IMO.

I'd punt a second round pick on him, given he's what 20YO?
Fair bet he'd be better than most second round picks we've taken in the last few seasons.

#5 & #6 (if Battle goes) on best available talent in the draft
2nd rounder on Hobbs

I have a feeling we may try and improve our draft position again this year, that's why I think they'll accept losing Battle for the mooted first round compo.

Peatling is worth a late first round pick not “mid range” and would be a sensational pick up. Shown signs to suggest he can be elite in the future.

I would also go hard at will broadie who would be a walk up starter for our midfield and be very cheap to acquire.

Recruiting Houston would be diabolically bad decision unless there’s a belief NAS will walk next year. That would make four loose half backs who all don’t defend? One of the few instances where recruiting an AA player would make you a worse off football side.
