Spirit Of St. Kilda

Don't know how much of us know about the origin of the club we support and their name.
But after many years of researching, it appears that the suburb our team was named after, not orginated from, because that was South Yarra, is St. Kilda. The suburb took its name from a shipwreck of a New Zealand boat called "Our Lady Of St, Kilda".
St. Kilda, an island in the Scottish Hebrides islands appears to have staken its name from a viking location called Roskilde, as there is no Saint Kilda.
No one has lived on that island for a hundred years.
However, the west coast of Scotland, particularly Ayrshire, and communities of Irvine and Kilmarnock have plenty of the old signs of St. Kilda in that area. I have been there and spent a lot of time there between 1991 and 1993.

A 1583 map of Scotland showed the islands written as Skilda(r), one theory was the islands looked like shields on the sea, and the Norse word for 'shield' was 'skildar'
