Three match winning umpire calls

Post: # 2073686Post CURLY »

Three decisions where an umpire decided the result of the game. The North v Collingwood game the two Pies players ran 15 meters over the mark. The umpire decided to ignore a blatant 50 denying North the goal to win the game.

Sydney v Collingwood McCartin again ran 15 meters over the mark the umpire decided to not award 50 denying Collingwood a match winning goal.

StKilda v Brisbane game in the balance Windhager with his back to the mark steps back to stand the mark umpire immediately pings him 50 with no warning and Brisbane goal killing off the game.

Amazing the influence umpires apparently don’t have.

Just shows the influence the umpires have. Also that they decided to pull the trigger on StKilda.

He’s definitely 100% not a troll, obsessed or deranged…

Oh, and you also forgot to add St Kilda v Collingwood, Jack Higgins kicking a goal from row 3 on level 1!

15 metres? I've told you a million times - don't exaggerate!

The Windhager 50 was probably technically correct. It was made clear that the closest opposition player must take the mark, and he cannot leave the mark and then someone from behind take it - especially if they infringe the 5 metre protection area in doing so. Smart players get away with a lot by communicating with the umpire, by calling to them "Where's the mark?" even though they know they are over it. It buys time as the umpire calls them back. Marcus has a lot to learn in that regard.

My main beef with umpires and marks, is the setting of marks for goal. I found that this was an easy thing to get right - even more so today with the extra umpires on the ground. I see umpires call a player back one or two metres and the player moves less than half that. One 50 is all that is needed to get players listening to your instructions. And, if a player can crib a metre, it can make all the difference.

Yeah a boundary umpire allows a freak goal the chances of him kicking it minimal.

It is not cheating - it is incompetence.

This was called throw in from the Hawthorn/Fremantle game (it is the first time it bounced)
