Max has clearly struggled this year.
We all saw him early days and believed he would be a spearhead full forward, commanding space and providing leadership.
It looks now like he lacks those two things, some of those skills are not coachable.
He can be a serviceable forward and a good target for us. IF the selected side and coaches understand his limitations.
OR he can play between the arcs and be a dominant link player.

IMHO. Surely the call 'Max King to CHB' is too early as coaches need to know the future of Josh Battle and how other tweaks in the remaining games pan out.

Far easier to find a key back than a key forward. Also far easier to play in the back half than forward.

The issue is how we play with him at FF not how he plays.
He plays week in week out when fit, so he must be following the coaches instructions to be a stay at home forward or he would have been dropped back to Sandy.
When he is at FF we bomb the ball to 25m out directly in front and we are not looking for forwards on the move.
When Max is not playing we enter the forward 50 looking for forwards on the move to target.
We need to have Max playing at either FF or CHF and enter the forward 50 not focusing on Max as the only target we have.

When it comes to kicking big scores consistently, multiple avenues to goal is King.
You can stop one key forward - especially a static target, but try stopping a bunch of mobile players who are taking turns in kicking multiples ... including mobile marking options in Membrey, Owens, Sharman, Caminiti, etc..
It's much harder to defend against.
King's absence has opened up the forward line by default (it wasn't planned). Our forward pressure has also been amped up.
Call it serendipity.
And next year, especially ...
An open forward line might allow running players like Phillipou, Darcy Wilson (as they develop further) Henry, and even Steele and Milera etc... to run through it, combine with other running players and start kicking more goals, too. It could have a snowball effect?
I'm excited at the prospect (I hope RTB can start to see the sense of a multi-pronged attack, and develop suitable strategies to best utilise the considerable talent he's very fortunate to be coaching, so that we end up kicking scores of 15 goals plus, consistently ).
