A contested possession is nothing like an actual contested majority of the time. The same with tackles.

It is very difficult to comprehend what Mr/ Mrs Football is stating, as he/she operates at a level of intricate football knowledge above any other forum member.

I think what ‘they’ are trying to state, is the collective of the data, and what constitutes a stat is the issue, not the multiple of the stat.

For example: if you are standing next to a player at a boundary throw in and the ball is hit directly to them and you wrap your arms around them you record a tackle, the same stat as a 20mt run down goal saving tackle.

If you do a quick on line search you’ll most likely find an article from where he/she has garnered their opinion, but he/she is not able to articulate their reworded version.

Daicos had 3 contested possessions in the first 5 minutes. Not one was he in a contested situation. The way these stats are measured are just not a true indication of a player.

Someone ratting off stats to judge a players game or ability is just not a satisfactory way to do so.

Once you pick up a loose ground ball, it's a contested possession and rightly so.

You actually have possession of a 'contested' footy without competing against someone to win the ball, but getting it on your boot and disposing of it is another thing.

There's heat, there's speed on the game, and you only have a split second to make a decision on what to do with it.
