Darcy Wilson's speccy - contested mark
Shout out to our Rising Star hopeful
He took a contested mark late in the game when we were 51 points up...it was up against ...wait for it - Stringer AND Langford
I was flabbergasted. Ronnie was deep on the last line and he kicked a dump kick to around about the 50m line. Darcy got a good sit on Jake and Langford was waiting flat-footed...thinking Stringer would easily outmark Darcy
Some very lazy efforts from a few Essendon players yesterday.
Anyway...that game and the confidence to go for a mark like that will give Darcy a big boost

He’s got some excellent attributes. And tons of courage. I think he’ll get pipped by Dempsey for the RS but I’m bloody happy Darcy plays for us.
Go you red, black & white warriors

A great pick at number 18 in the draft. Fingers crossed our first pick this year turns out to be good as young Darcy. I just hope he finishes the year strongly and gives the RS award a real shake.

A few months ago, RTB in a presser said 'yeah, we're real lucky to have him'

A slider as well. Many suggested that he was top 10’ish (around 10) and that if he made it through, there’s no way he’d get passed Adelaide who’d been watching him for years.
I was stoked first when he slid and then we choose him

Fingers crossed indeed. Toce isn't steering that ship anymoreNick DalSanto Claus wrote: ↑Sun 28 Jul 2024 7:14am A great pick at number 18 in the draft. He wasn’t a slider. It was just that all the Suns Academy and Father Sons bids happened and then came our first true pick which was from I believe a 12 to 18.

Absolutely. Everything I read had Adelaide categorically taking him with their first pick if he was there (at what was 8) and that he would have been in the conversation at every pick to go since then.TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Sun 28 Jul 2024 3:15pmHe wasn’t a slider. I couldn’t believe it when he fell to us

Nicely judged mark
Speccy?
Wilson will be a good player, played ok yesterday
His first year is similar to Phillipou last season

Is there a bit of ex Hawk/Cat Isaac Smith about him ?
I really like the way he goes about it.
I hope he can continue to build in his second and third years the way that Nas did.
Assuming Darcy stays on the wing , and if Nas eventually goes back to the wing, we could quite possibly have the best wing combo in the league.

Re: Darcy Wilson's speccy - contested mark
Maybe move him if Byrnes can't hold down the wing position or... if we haven't got Seb or another good player to play there. If Byrnes keeps improving, then leave Nas at half back.
The look of the side might be totally different in 2-3 years time. Arie Shoemaker and hopefully James Van Es are alongside Wilkie and Dougs. We'll need to find a replacement for Webster as well

Why move him at all
He is an Elite HB
Rebounding defenders are critically important
We have 2 who are elite
