Bailey Smith
Probably the best mid potentially available for trade at season end.
24 YO in December
Just off a knee reco
Hard running, questionable kicking?
Would suit RTB game plan
What would you give up for him?
Dogs would want our first rounder.

Would be interested at the right price. No way is he worth our first round though.

Is he worth Josh Battle?

Re: Bailey Smith
Just take the long route and use our first rounder to find the next Bailey Smith in the national draft.
I'd like to see the club adopt the policy we don't trade our first round DPs.

Sounds like he will be at the Cats in 2025.
They need a quick mid to balance their midfield, and they prefer players who are good immediately.

Re: Bailey Smith
Never trade first round picks
Andrew Lovett for Pick 16
Even ones that initially seem ok - end up costing you
Heath Black for pick 17
Heath Black played 65 games for StK
Pick 17 was James Kelly - 313 games for Geelong
Even great ones
Fraser Gehrig for Pick 18 - was only a break even at best
Pick 18 was Daniel Kerr
Brad Hill
Been a solid/Good player for us but it cost pick 10 (later 12) Kysiah Pickett and 2020 second rounder AND Blake Acres
Bizarre trade
If you sell the farm - you gamble the future
Even trading down picks is stupidity
We traded down twice under Pelchen
And once for Jack Higgins
Which on the surface seemed a great trade swapped our first for their second and Higgins
Their pick was on traded to Geelong
Ended up being Max Holmes!!!

Re: Bailey Smith
Would trade our first pick for a few players running around right now.
Goulden
Butters
Daicos
Warner
Anderson
Reid
Serong
Sheezel
Others I’ve missed.

Re: Bailey Smith
Yes
Rule
Must be a bona fide star - AA and B&F winner 23yo or under
Probably be 30 players in the AFL I’d trade a first round pick for, and that only if we have 2 picks in the first round

Re: Bailey Smith
Good player of the type we need and probably has room for improvement. You can easily get a bust with a first-rounder, so you need to factor that in as well.
I doubt he’d want to come to us though. More likely he’d want to go somewhere he’s virtually guaranteed to play finals, like Geelong

I agree with you on not trading first round picks, but gee you plucked some great picks in Kerr, Kelly etc to use as examples.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jul 2024 5:29pm Never trade first round picks

Also plenty of busts with traded picks in first round.
Still, I’d much prefer to take the pick to the draft.

Re: Bailey Smith
They are just our traded first rounders!
I also forgot
Fergus Watts for pick 17 - Darren Pfieffer
Barry Brooks pick 6 - Stephen Salopek
We’ve actually got good vale trading second and third rounders
Gram - second round
Dempster + Schneider- second round
Steele - Second Round
Josh Bruce - Second round
M.Gardiner- Third round
Farren Ray - Third round
Brett Peake - Third round

Re: Bailey Smith
On costly trades, anyone else underwhelmed by Kelly's performance Saturday?
After watching him for Geelong and knowing what the WCE paid I thought, where's the meat.

Caught a plane to Europe recently and he was on it. My partner got stuck at the passport check in and he walked straight past me. Reeks of “I’m top s***”. Not worth it unless he comes as a FA.

I saw Chris Hemsworth interact with a fan on Tik Tok. A brief handshake, an autograph, and he had to go as his kids needed a wee.TheGreatZacsby wrote: ↑Mon 22 Jul 2024 11:34pm Caught a plane to Europe recently and he was on it. From that 5 seconds, I deduced he's a rude, arrogant flog with no time nor patience for his fans, and I erased all his movies from my hard drive. No regrets

Re: Bailey Smith
It would be our luck to recruit Butters and the wheels of time catch up and he gets suspended.
On Kelly I think he hasn’t shown much since leaving Geelong, says something about the players around him influencing his performances.
I think they gave up 2 first rounders plus some ?

Hasn’t Tim Kelly won a B&F at the Eagles
And will probably win it this year?
But I was referring to James Kelly for Geelong - who they got with the pick we had but traded for Heath Black

I grew up Inverloch and had a lot to do with the Hemsworth family. Will say they are a really good family and very polite. Haven’t met Chris though. But I’m sure he is just the same.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 23 Jul 2024 3:45amI saw Chris Hemsworth interact with a fan on Tik Tok.
